The Technical Writer will write instruction manuals, guides, journal articles and other kinds of supporting documentation for software applications. The Technical Writer is responsible for authoring and illustrating well-written content which presents applications in a clear and concise manner as easy-to-use. When preparing documentation and standardizing content, the Technical Writer will collaborate with product management, application development programmers, and support personnel.

Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results

  • Collaborate and consult with team members to develop and execute digital content.
  • Strong time management, organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively both independently and within a team.

    Client:

  • Incorporate client feedback and suggestions to improve documentation.
  • Make applications easy-to-use by presenting applications in a clear and concise manner.
  • Create end user documentation such as training manuals and how-to guides for the non-technical user.
  • Select appropriate drawings, diagrams and charts to support content and create new illustrations as necessary.
  • Prepare and author various internal communication efforts as requested.

    Value:

  • Discover and document features through collaboration with product management, application development programmers and support personnel.
  • Manage updates and revisions to existing documentation library.
  • Produce content for online document repositories.
  • Learn complex technologies relatively quickly.
  • Be adept at explaining complex technologies in useful ways for the target audience.
  • Proactively communicate project status, challenges, and issues.
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills. Must demonstrate proven experience in writing digital content, technical writing and/or copywriting.
  • Excellent project management skills with the drive to meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Qualification:

Masters/Bachelors in English, Journalism, Marketing, Business, Communications, Computer Science or a related field. Three to four years of experience in technical writing.

Computer Skills:

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Word
  • Advanced experience with desktop publishing
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Suite

Additional Skills (good to have):

  • Graphic design experience
  • Software programming
  • Familiarity with U.S. taxation

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver’s license required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

  • Standard indoor working environment.
  • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
  • Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the firm as well as interaction with external vendors and clients as necessary.
  • Independent travel requirement: up to 10%.
