Our Arizona Proving Ground (APG) location is home to all product testing. Test miles are supported by Test Riders, Mechanics, Engineers, Coordinators, Technical Specialists and Administrative personnel. APG provides motorcycle testing services related to motorcycle development, performance, validation and certification.

We are currently looking for a Test Engineer for the Systems Test Lab. This position reports to the Systems Test/VMG Lab Manager at the Arizona Proving Ground (APG), Yucca, AZ and is an integral part of the Product Development team at Harley-Davidson. The person filling this role will be responsible for collaborating, coordinating, and managing tests between the Systems Test personnel and various product development groups requesting the evaluations. The variety of tests will include work in areas such as advanced innovation, quality initiatives and various regulatory testing that enables Harley-Davidson Motor Company sales world-wide. The person filling this role would be involved with the operation, diagnosis, and continuous improvement of automated test equipment and related testing.

Job Responsibilities

This Engineering position will be held accountable for delivering the following:

  • Setup and configuration of motorcycles for regulatory and development testing in support of executing technically meaningful tests
  • Support lab compliance to ISO17025 accreditation
  • Refine and develop test methods to improve and reduce product development time and improve lab efficiency
  • Review test data for validity and accuracy
  • Collaborate with engineers, mechanics and riders, as needed to ensure the best results for the product
  • Deliver test and lab goals while demonstrating Fairness and Honesty in all interactions with a Positive attitude and while finding Creative solutions in their work.
  • Be a technical resource for technical specialists and contract technicians/mechanics.
  • Ability to learn and quickly familiarize with automated test equipment. Comfortable working with software driven test equipment and related programming skills.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
    • This position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or other related technical discipline, in conjunction with 3-5 years of experience in a test and/or engineering environment. In some cases, experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements. It is expected that this position would serve as a technical resource for the technical specialists and contract technicians/mechanics in the lab.

The successful candidate may possess skills in the areas of:

  • Basic understanding of programmable logic controllers and related programming
  • Basic understanding of data analysis tools such as nCode, MatLab, Python programming, etc.
  • Basic understanding of exhaust emissions test methods and technology
  • Understanding of analog and digital data acquisition systems/methods, various transducer uses and applications
  • Understands thermocouple function, use, and applications
  • Basic mechanical skills with hand tools to pursue and execute various lab projects as they arise

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
