Job Description

About us

PlasmaLeap Technologies is an Australian clean-chemicals company focused on transforming how essential fuels and fertilisers are produced. We develop modular plasma reactors powered by renewable electricity that use air and water as inputs, enabling low-emissions, distributed chemical production.

Our technology is designed to address some of the hardest-to-abate sectors, including agriculture, energy, and transport by offering a scalable and commercially viable alternative to traditional, fossil-fuel-based processes. By decentralising production, we aim to improve supply chain resilience and support global food and energy security

If you want to build deep tech that solves climate and food security in the same breath, and you want to do it fast, with urgency, ownership, and real execution, then you will fit right in.

The opportunity

We are looking for a Test Engineer to own how we validate our systems from early prototypes through to production.

This role sits at the intersection of electronics, wiring, instrumentation, and system-level testing, ensuring we generate high-quality data, uncover failures early, and build confidence in performance, reliability, and safety.

You will design and build test infrastructure, execute rigorous testing (including thermal and HALT-style stress testing), and help bridge the gap between R&D prototypes and production-ready systems

This role is ideal for an engineer with practical experience in electrical systems, PCB design, and hardware integration who enjoys working closely with cross functional teams to deliver high quality
engineering outcomes.

What you'll do

Design & Development

  • Design and update PCBs, schematics, and supporting
    documentation
  • Support electrical design
including component selection, circuit analysis, and prototyping
  • Contribute to cabinet design and system integration (wiring,
    layout, assembly)

System Integration, Testing & Validation

  • Execute test plans and perform integration and verification
    of electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, identify root
    causes, and implement fixes
  • Support system bring-up, debugging, and validation
    of new designs
  • Design and run thermal and environmental tests, and
    correlate results with design expectations
  • Conduct stress and reliability testing
to identify early failure modes and improve robustness

Hands-on Build & Lab Work

  • Assemble, modify, and test electrical cabinets,
    harnesses, and full systems

Production & Scaling Support

  • Develop and improve manufacturing and end-of-line test
    procedures
  • Translate R&D tests into repeatable production workflows
  • Support debugging of production and field issues

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work closely with mechanical, software, and systems teams
  • Prepare test plans, reports, and engineering documentation
  • Contribute to design reviews and continuous improvement

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics
    Engineering
    , or related discipline.
  • 3–6 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g.,
    Altium, KiCad, or equivalent).
  • Experience with electrical cabinet wiring, integration, and
    hardware assembly.
  • Strong understanding of electronics fundamentals, signal
    integrity, and component selection.
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics, wiring
diagrams, and technical drawings with SolidWorks Electrical or AutoCAD.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical or similar ECAD tools.
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI considerations and compliance testing.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems
    or microcontroller based designs.
  • Experience with automated test setups or scripting (Python,
    MATLAB, etc.).
  • Understanding of safety standards and industrial control
    systems.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a
    practical, hands-on approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently
    when required.
  • Attention to detail and commitment
    to high-quality engineering work.
