We’re looking for a Test Automation Engineer to take ownership of quality across our clinical software - someone who can bring disciplined manual testing, build automation coverage from the ground up, and apply AI-assisted tooling to make testing smarter, faster, and more reliable.
This isn’t a downstream gatekeeper role. You’ll be an active member within cross-functional product teams - working alongside Product, Engineering, Design, and Delivery to shift quality earlier in the development lifecycle. You’ll help shape testable requirements, surface risks before they become defects, and build the automation foundation that gives the whole team confidence at release time.
This role also plays an important part in production support - acting as a QA point of contact for escalations from the Support Desk, helping to triage, reproduce, and resolve issues quickly and thoroughly. You’ll bring a clinical mindset to everything you do, understanding that the software you test directly affects patient care.
Please note: this role occasionally requires work outside standard business hours to support beta upgrade management, release validation, or time-critical testing activities. Supports flexible working arrangements to accommodate these requirements.
What You’ll Do
Own manual testing across the delivery lifecycle - developing test plans aligned to acceptance criteria and release schedules, and executing functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing across product features and workflows. You’ll validate fixes and enhancements, log defects clearly, and ensure test coverage reflects the business-critical workflows our customers depend on.
Build automated test coverage from the ground up - selecting tooling, defining standards and patterns, and establishing the foundation for scalable, sustainable test automation. You’ll run automated suites within CI/CD pipelines, prioritise coverage by patient impact and business risk, maintain test reliability, and collaborate with Engineers to ensure pipeline results are meaningful and trusted by the team.
Apply AI-powered testing tools - including AI-assisted test case generation, intelligent exploratory testing tools, and tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude - to improve testing efficiency and coverage. You’ll critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, identify opportunities to reduce repetitive effort, and help the team adopt AI-assisted practices in a safe, responsible, and compliant way.
Support production and the Support Desk - acting as the QA point of contact for escalated production issues, triaging symptoms, reproducing defects in appropriate environments, and providing clear defect write-ups with logs, screenshots, and reproduction steps. You’ll identify patterns in recurring incidents, recommend preventative actions, and contribute to post-incident reviews and continuous improvement.
Be a quality champion across the team - working collaboratively to shift quality earlier in the SDLC, engaging with Product and Engineering during backlog refinement and release planning, shaping testable requirements, and representing the customer and patient perspective in team decisions. You’ll support improvements in QA tooling, processes, and risk management, and help make quality a shared team responsibility rather than a final gate.
What You’ll Bring
3+ years’ experience in software testing / QA roles, ideally in a product or SaaS environment where software quality has real end-user impact.
Strong manual testing capability - you can write clear, structured test plans, execute across functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing types, and log defects in a way that makes them easy to understand, reproduce, and prioritise.
Demonstrated experience establishing an automated test framework from scratch - including tooling selection, defining standards and patterns, integrating into CI/CD pipelines, and maintaining test reliability over time. You understand that not everything warrants automation, and you can make deliberate decisions about coverage based on patient impact and business risk.
Experience with SDLC practices and tools - you’re comfortable working in a fast paced delivery environment, familiar with CI/CD pipelines, and have used test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, DevOps, or similar).
Strong defect reporting and communication skills - you can translate testing findings into clear, evidence-based defect reports and communicate quality risks in a way that resonates with engineers, product managers, and leadership alike.
Understanding of privacy and security responsibilities in a health-tech environment - you apply good security practices when managing credentials, environments, logs, and test evidence, and you know how to handle sensitive or production-representative data safely and appropriately.
Familiarity with AI tools in a software development and testing context - including tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or ChatGPT for test script creation, data generation, and documentation, as well as AI-assisted test case generation tools. You understand both the opportunities and the risks (hallucinations, bias, data privacy) of using AI in testing workflows.
Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs - you don’t treat AI outputs as ground truth. You review, validate, and apply judgement before using AI-generated test cases, scripts, or documentation as part of your testing practice.
Curiosity and a growth mindset - you’re willing to experiment with new AI-assisted workflows, stay informed of emerging testing tools and techniques, and share what you learn with the broader QA team to continuously improve how we approache quality.
