REPORTS TO Supervisor Test and Activation Specialists

SUPERVISES None

DUTIES RESPO NSIBILITIES Under lim ited s upervision, perf orms m oderately com plex t est t echnician duties in su pport of Test Engineers Guidance is availa ble from superiors as nee ded

  • Works from limited documentation, schematics, diagrams, notes, production prints and layouts.
  • Performs operational/functional tests, troubleshoots and debugs assemblies, subassemblies, and systems to isolate faults and determine remedies for malfunctions.
  • Sets up specialized test equipment for checkout of non-routine assemblies and systems.
  • Utilizes normal and specialized manufacturing test or diagnostic equipment specific to the products.
  • Prepares diagnostic tests and assists in the design, construction, test and checkout of complex test equipment and test procedure development.
  • Utilizes a wide variety of developmental/manufacturing test or diagnostic equipment to check out, test, and troubleshoot complex or complete systems.
  • Normally assigned to areas such as fabrication, production test, system checkout, quality control, or the like.
  • Complies with Austal’s employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.

QUALI FICATI ONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Two (2) to four (4) years’ Test and Activation ex perience in a shipyard, marine, aerospace, or off shore oil and gas environment required
  • Test t raining equivale nt to two (2) ye ars technical trade school or m ilit ary technical school, and/or, Navy, Coast G uard, or Mercha nt Mari ner experie nce will be considered in lieu of work experience.
  • Desire and a bility to work in a ship yard environm ent required

Preferred experience and/or training:

  • Proficient in indust rial or m arine ancillary m achinery s yst ems inst allation/operation.
  • Proficient in shipboard e ngin eering plant term inology a nd operations.
  • Basic understanding of ship construction drawings and testing procedures.
  • Basic knowl edg e of how m arine equipm ent shou ld operat e.
  • Basic mechanical and/or electrical aptitude.
  • Basic u nderst an ding of m ec hanical and electrical pro pulsion and electrical power generating equi pm ent.
  • Dem onstrated ability to read and int erpret elect rical and piping s yst em diagram s,s chem atics and dra win gs
  • K nowled ge of di esel eng ines and gas turbines.
  • Knowledge of shipboard damage control systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and shipboard deck equipment.
  • Knowledge of auxiliary and/or HVAC systems.

ADDITIO NAL GUIDELINES

Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment with Austal USA:

  • 18 years of age or older at time of application
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status
  • No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
  • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen
  • Willing to submit to a background check
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.

TRAVEL:

  • This position will require repair efforts in various offsite locations and will be required to travel to customer sites to support work on vessels if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities. The potential for offsite travel can potentially be in excess of 15-25%. Some overseas travel is possible although NO TRAVEL to declared warzones is anticipated.
