The Territory Sales Representative is responsible for driving new equipment sales and growing market share across an assigned geographic territory for JESCO, Inc., an authorized Ditch Witch dealer. This role requires a self-motivated individual who is equally comfortable in a boardroom and on a job site — building strong customer relationships, demonstrating equipment, managing a pipeline, and personally delivering units to customers when required. The ideal candidate brings a combination of consultative sales ability, mechanical aptitude, and the physical capability and medical card credentials necessary to safely transport and deliver Ditch Witch equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales & Territory Development
- Prospect, develop, and maintain customer relationships across the assigned territory to grow equipment sales revenue.
- Conduct product demonstrations and job-site visits to present Ditch Witch underground construction equipment to contractors, utilities, and municipalities.
- Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation through close, including trade-in evaluations, financing coordination, and delivery.
- Achieve and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets established by management.
- Monitor competitive activity and market trends; provide regular feedback to management on territory conditions.
- Maintain accurate records of all sales activity, pipeline, and customer interactions within the CRM system.
- Collaborate with the parts and service departments to ensure a complete customer experience post-sale.
Equipment Delivery & Transport
- Operate a minimum 1-ton pickup truck with trailer to transport, deliver, and demonstrate equipment at customer sites throughout the territory.
- Properly secure all equipment loads in compliance with DOT regulations, company policy, and industry best practices prior to transport.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tow vehicle and trailer; report any deficiencies promptly.
- Maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Card) at all times as a condition of employment.
- Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations while operating company vehicles and trailers.
Product Knowledge & Training
- Develop and maintain expert-level product knowledge across the Ditch Witch equipment line, including trenchers, tow behind vacuum excavators, cable plows, and compact equipment.
- Participate in manufacturer-led training programs, trade shows, and product launches.
- Serve as a technical resource for customers regarding equipment selection, application, and specifications.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; must be insurable under JESCO's commercial vehicle policy.
- Must hold a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Card) and maintain it in good standing throughout employment.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate a minimum 1-ton pickup truck towing a loaded equipment trailer.
- Proficient in properly securing equipment loads using chains, binders, straps, and related tie-down equipment in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted on a regular basis
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory, including occasional overnight stays.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust at multiple organizational levels.
- Proficiency with CRM tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and general computer applications.
Preferred
- 2+ years of outside sales experience in construction equipment, underground construction, utilities, or related capital equipment industries.
- Familiarity with Ditch Witch, Vermeer, Toro, or comparable equipment product lines.
- Experience with dealer management systems and/or equipment financing processes.
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Agriculture, Construction Management, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
This position involves regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions. The representative will frequently work on active construction sites, in equipment yards, and at customer facilities.
Physical requirements include:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing in/out of equipment and trucks, bending, and reaching.
- Capability to operate a motor vehicle for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Exposure to outdoor elements including extreme heat, cold, and wet conditions.
- Must be able to work safely in and around heavy equipment at all times.
