The Terminal Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the terminal operations, including all transportation activities. This role involves initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational, safety, and procedural policies. The Terminal Manager ensures compliance with personnel policies and maintains effective communication with customers and upper management. The Terminal Manager is instrumental in establishing productivity goals, staffing requirements, and training programs to meet or exceed customer Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Duties and responsibilities:
- Schedule and oversee work throughout the fleet, to meet planned objectives.
- Ensure adherence to customer and company KPIs, establish and monitor productivity goals, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Become a subject matter expert on customer required platforms used for daily reporting and performance.
- Determine staffing needs based on work volume forecasts and coordinate with internal and external resources to meet daily requirements.
- Manage a team of Dispatchers, Clerks, and Drivers, providing leadership and direction.
- Train Dispatchers & Clerks on their responsibilities, productivity, service levels, accuracy, and safety goals.
- Maintain regular communication with customers to discuss service goals and ensure they are met or exceeded.
- Monitor and direct all dispatching activities, including tracking, routing and dispatching transportation vehicles.
- Implement changes to transportation services, policies or scheduling as needed.
- Ensure staff members fully and consistently comply with DOT safety rules
- Implement communication systems for timely research and response to customer inquiries.
- Establish documentation for operation procedures.
- Establish and monitor security procedures and protocols to safeguard transportation operations.
- Enforce OS&D (Over, Short, and Damage) procedures for policy adherence.
- Develop training and cross-training programs to ensure comprehensive understanding of duties and versatility among drivers and office staff.
- Work with the Human Resources office to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Promote and lead good housekeeping programs to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.
- 7 years minimum of management experience in a logistics environment.
- Proven ability to manage complex operations with attention to detail.
- Strong focus on customer service excellence and relationship management.
- Excellent reporting and documentation skills, with the ability to produce and analyze operational reports.
- Proficient in logistics management software.
- Proficient in Microsoft office.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing operational procedures and safety protocols.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage teams effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively communicating with all levels of staff and external partners.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
- Experience with budget management and cost control measures.
- Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Professional certification in logistics or supply chain management is a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Supervisory Presence: Regular walking and standing to oversee transportation operations, and monitor staff performance.
- Computer Use: Frequent use of computers and handheld devices for inventory management, scheduling, and communication, necessitating manual dexterity.
- Environmental Exposure: Work may involve exposure to warehouse environments, outdoor conditions, and all types of weather while managing transportation operations.
