Job Description

The J. Mike Walker '66 Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for one tenured faculty position with a nine-month academic appointment, and the possibility of an additional summer appointment contingent upon need and availability of funds, beginning fall 2027. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Professor. The department will consider candidates with demonstrated expertise and experience in bioheat and mass transfer, biotransport, thermal sciences, and biomedical engineering, encompassing both fundamental and applied research in heat and mass transfer in biological systems, cryobiology, and biopreservation. Particular interest is directed toward researchers advancing the understanding, modeling, measurement, and control of thermal and biophysical phenomena across cellular, tissue, and organ scales. Fundamental areas of interest include cryopreservation and vitrification, freezing and thawing processes, thermal injury and tissue response, phase change, water and mass transport, thermal properties of biological materials, and heat transfer at micro- and nanoscale. The department welcomes expertise in both computational and experimental approaches, including mathematical modeling, calorimetry, thermal analysis, advanced imaging and measurement techniques, and nanotechnology-enabled thermal processes. Applications may span organ and tissue preservation, transplantation, regenerative medicine, cancer treatment and thermal therapies, medical devices, and emerging technologies for biological systems where heat and mass transfer play a critical role. Successful candidates will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary community of faculty addressing pressing challenges in human health and engineering, with the goal of developing transformative scientific insights and impactful technologies for medicine and biological preservation.

The successful applicant will be required to teach, advise and mentor graduate students, develop an independent, externally funded research program, participate in all aspects of the department’s activities, and serve the profession. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering or science discipline. Applicants should consult the department’s website to review our academic and research programs (http://engineering.tamu.edu/mechanical).
