Job Description

The University of Virginia (UVA) Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) and the Community Cancer Control and Obesity Research Center (CORC) is seeking applicants for a tenure-eligible open rank faculty position within the division of Health Intervention & Implementation Science. The candidate will develop and lead a multidisciplinary research program focused on cancer prevention involving nutrition and/or obesity in rural and low-resourced communities in the UVA Cancer Center’s catchment area and beyond. The position places a strong emphasis on collaborative team science within CORC, while providing opportunities for the successful candidate to expand and complement the Center’s existing research portfolio.

CORC has a strong track record of developing and conducting hybrid effectiveness-implementation trials focused on nutrition, obesity, and chronic disease risk reduction across real-world settings, including childcare centers, schools, safety-net clinics, and rural primary care practices. Digital health and rural health are cross-cutting strengths that span the CORC’s research portfolio. As CORC strategically expands its faculty, we seek a scholar whose expertise complements and extends these strengths. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in implementation science and research focused on nutrition, obesity, and/or child health. Preference will also be given to candidates who would join the UVA Cancer Center’s satellite team office in Christiansburg, VA providing close proximity to the rural communities we engage in research and strengthening the Cancer Center’s capacity for community-engaged research across Southwest Virginia. Candidates at all eligible ranks should demonstrate a strong commitment to collaborative research, scholarship, teaching, mentorship, and service. Expectations for research productivity, extramural funding, mentorship, and national or international leadership will be commensurate with faculty rank.

PHS offers a vibrant academic home with access to support services for research. The department provides comprehensive and multi-disciplinary scientific and analytical services to the University of Virginia School of Medicine through its Divisions of Biostatistics & Health Data Science; Health Evaluation & Outcomes Science; and Health Intervention & Implementation Science. The Department offers two master degrees, an MS in Clinical Research and an MPH.
