
The Department of Nursing Research at the University of Virginia School of Nursing (SON) invites applications for a tenure-track, open rank faculty position in Precision Health. We seek a dynamic and collaborative nurse scientist whose research complements and expands our existing strengths and contributes to the advancement of equitable, data-informed health care.
As a teacher and scholar, the successful candidate will shape and advance our understanding of health outcomes for individuals and populations by integrating biologic, genomic, environmental, behavioral, digital, and social data to guide tailored prevention and care across the lifespan. The successful candidate will contribute meaningfully to the School’s strategic priorities, including the development of Areas of Excellence in research and a strong commitment to interdisciplinary team science. This faculty member will play an important role in collaboratively strengthening and expanding the School of Nursing’s research infrastructure and its integration within the broader University of Virginia research ecosystem.
Building on the SON’s strengths in symptom science, caregiving and aging, health equity, digital health, and complex care management, this faculty member will leverage multi-layered data central to precision health, including genomic information, environmental exposures, biometric and digital monitoring data, and social and community characteristics, to understand, predict, and improve health trajectories. Through a nursing science lens, the successful candidate will generate person-centered, context-aware, and actionable precision insights that are translatable to practice and policy.
Aligned with the University of Virginia’s Precision Health Initiative and its commitment to developing equitable partnerships with communities, the successful applicant will foster collaborations across Nursing, Medicine, Engineering, Data Science, and community partners across Virginia. The faculty member will be encouraged to engage with established research hubs, data cores, and clinical and community-based partnerships to advance team-based science. Their research will contribute to precision health approaches that improve outcomes at the individual, family, and population levels while addressing issues of representation, bias, and equitable implementation.
