Roanoke College is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA), located in the beautiful Roanoke Valley of Virginia. A Phi Beta Kappa institution, Roanoke College is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks diversity among its faculty, staff, and students; women and members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The Position

Roanoke College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Psychology position in the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, starting in August 2027. We seek a candidate with energetic vision, creative thought, and collaborative spirit. The Psychology program is a friendly community that seeks to hire an individual who will contribute to offering a wide array of courses and opportunities to students. The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (4/4 load or 4/3 with advising) and engaging in program/college service, with support available for a research program. Applicants must be willing and able to teach courses within Psychology and Neuroscience, and contribute to Roanoke’s general education program, including a subset of existing courses and a willingness to develop new courses. See current Psychology courses offered here. Pedagogical development is highly supported at both the program and college level. Candidates who can involve undergraduate and graduate students in research would be particularly welcome. Service activities are varied across campus, with opportunities for individual expression and engagement.

This position is part of a cluster of tenure-track hires within the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, including Engineering, Environmental Studies, Health and Exercise Science, Psychology, and Neuroscience. Consistent with Roanoke College's commitment to transdisciplinary education, this hire is envisioned as contributing to an interconnected academic ecosystem rather than a single program. Faculty hired through this initiative will be expected to intentionally cultivate meaningful collaborations across disciplines through their teaching, scholarship, and service. Applicants should address in their cover letter how they would contribute to this transdisciplinary vision with at least one specific opportunity for collaboration across two or more programs at Roanoke College. To learn more about these programs and others within the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, visit https://www.roanoke.edu/academics/schools.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 – 64,000, commensurate with experience. The selected candidate for this position must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. The College is unable to provide any type of visa sponsorships for this position at this time.
