Job Description

The Division of Curriculum and Teaching (C&T) at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education (GSE) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Literacy/English Language Arts (ELA) Education. The position begins in September 2027. The successful candidate will teach and mentor students across programs in Adolescent English Language Arts Education, Childhood Education, and the Ph.D. program in Innovation in Curriculum and Instruction (ICI).

We seek a scholar with a strong record of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in research, teaching, and service, and a deep commitment to social justice and urban education. We are particularly interested in candidates whose scholarship and teaching engage issues relevant to contemporary literacy/ELA education. The successful candidate will contribute to the C&T Division and Graduate School through an active research agenda, high-quality teaching, doctoral and master’s student mentorship, program leadership, and collaborative service.

Research

• Maintain an active and visible research agenda in Literacy/English Language Arts education, or a closely related area.
• Publish in peer-reviewed journals and seek external funding.
• Engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research with colleagues within and beyond C&T and GSE.

Teaching & Advising

• Teach graduate courses in Literacy/ELA education at the master’s and doctoral levels.
• Utilize diverse teaching modalities, including in-person, hybrid, hyflex, synchronous, and asynchronous formats.
• Advise and mentor both master’s and doctoral students.
• Teach primarily at Fordham’s Lincoln Center Campus in Manhattan, NY.

Program Leadership

• Serve as Program Coordinator for the Adolescent ELA program and provide leadership in literacy/ELA education across relevant childhood programs.
• Recruit, advise, and support teacher candidates and doctoral students in Literacy/ELA Education.
• Review applications and participate in admissions and recruitment efforts (e.g., Information Sessions).
• Identify, mentor, and evaluate adjunct faculty in Literacy/ELA Education
• Collaborate on accreditation activities, including data collection and reporting.
• Represent the ELA program at Divisional and school-wide meetings and initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Literacy/ELA Education or a closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered with expected completion by August 2027)
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to social justice and urban education, with evidence of incorporating principles of equity and inclusion into teaching, scholarship, and/or service
• At least three years of K-12 teaching experience in literacy, ELA, or a closely related area

Preferred Qualifications

• Current or previous teacher certification/licensure in literacy, ELA, or a related field
• Experience in academic program coordination and leadership
• Experience teaching in teacher preparation programs, including online and/or hybrid modalities
• Record of peer-reviewed scholarship and demonstrated potential for continued scholarly productivity and pursuit of external funding.
• Expertise in Literacy/ELA Education or a related area, such as reading and writing instruction, adolescent literacy, literacy assessment and intervention, multilingual learners and literacy, transliteracy/multiliteracies, digital literacy, or literacy across the curriculum
• Experience mentoring graduate students and/or participating in doctoral research and dissertation work
