Application for tenure track Assistant Professor of Theatre, Film, and Communication Arts with an Emphasis in Scenic Design

The Department of Theatre, Film, and Communication Arts at Whittier College, a private liberal arts institution located in Los Angeles County, seeks a collaborative educator to serve as faculty member and designer in the areas of scenic design and entertainment technologies. This is a full-time, tenure-track position that will teach 3-4 courses per year in addition to designing 3-4 department productions. Contributions to First Year Experience and the Liberal Arts Education Curriculum expected. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and equity. Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Candidates will have an MFA in theatre, earned by August 2024, with demonstrated experience in taking productions from concept to realization. Experience teaching in a college or university and designing within academic and/or professional settings are necessary. A successful candidate will develop introductory as well as upper-division courses for the Design and Technology Emphasis of the major.

The Department of Theatre, Film and Communication Arts produces 3-4 productions per year, in the 403 seat, court-style, Robinson Theatre of the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts, and an additional 1-2 faculty or student-led productions mounted in our 99-seat Studio Theatre.
