The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology (VTPB) in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) (http:vetmed.tamu.edu/) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications from researchers in infectious disease and immunity for one (1) full-time, 9-month appointment faculty position with an expected start date of August 1, 2027 as part of a cluster hire initiative for Translational Research in Infection and Immunity. This position includes an effort distribution of 70% research and scholarship, 20% teaching, and 10% service. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a vigorous, externally funded research program and to contribute to collaborative, interdisciplinary scholarship. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, emerging, re-emerging, and zoonotic pathogens—including viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic agents—as well as host immunity to infection and immune modulation to advance health. Candidates whose work incorporates interdisciplinary perspectives and collaborative approaches are especially encouraged to apply.
Teaching responsibilities will primarily include courses in the Biomedical Sciences (BIMS) Undergraduate and Graduate Programs, with opportunities for qualified candidates to contribute to the professional DVM curriculum. The BIMS Graduate Program offers a rich environment for graduate training, mentorship, and student recruitment, and currently enrolls 124 M.S. and 133 Ph.D. students. In addition, the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology is home to an NIH-funded T32 training program that supports veterinarians pursuing advanced research training in biomedical sciences.
Service responsibilities include contributions to the Department, College, and University, with additional encouragement to engage in professional organizations and community service.

This position is part of a collaborative cluster hire supporting the TAMU initiative on Translational Research in Infection and Immunity - a multidisciplinary effort spanning multiple colleges, including the VMBS, the School of Public Health, and the Bush School of Government & Public Service. The initiative addresses an urgent grand challenge at the intersection of health and national security, as emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases threaten human and animal health, food security, and economic stability. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, growing community of investigators working across infectious disease, immunology, biosecurity, drug discovery, clinical policy, and related disciplines, with access to state-of-the-art infrastructure, including the Global Health Research Complex and TAMU System facilities in the Texas Panhandle and Rio Grande Valley. The VTPB department includes 45 faculty members with a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and scholarly interests. Faculty members are located at the TAMU campus in College Station, at the Veterinary Education Research and Outreach (VERO) program on the campus of West Texas A&M University in Canyon, and at the Higher Education Center at McAllen (HECM) in South Texas. Faculty members contribute to teaching in the DVM professional program and undergraduate and graduate BIMS programs. Research emphasis areas within VTPB are broad and include Diagnostic Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Immunology, Food Animal Microbiology & Epidemiology, Clinical Microbiology, Biomedical Genetics/Genomics & Bioinformatics, Pathology, Artificial Intelligence in Veterinary Medicine, and Wildlife Medicine & Conservation. Collaboration opportunities are available with neighboring institutions, such as the Texas A&M Health Science Center, the Institute for Infectious Animal Diseases (IIAD), M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. The VTPB department is one of the five academic departments in the VMBS, including Large Animal Clinical Sciences, Small Animal Clinical Sciences, Veterinary Integrative Biosciences, and Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology. The successful faculty member will have opportunities to form collaborations with colleagues in other VMBS academic departments as well as other schools and colleges. Required:
PhD in Microbiology, Virology, Parasitology, Immunology, or related disciplines with dissertation research and postdoctoral training in infection and immunity.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred:
Candidates with both DVM and PhD are preferred but not required.
