Job Title: Varsity Tennis Head Coach
Position Overview:
Cooperstown Central School is seeking a dedicated and skilled Varsity Tennis Head Coach to lead the high school tennis program. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the sport of tennis and committed to fostering a competitive, respectful, and growth-oriented environment for student-athletes. The coach will be responsible for all aspects of team management, including player development, match preparation, and communication with school and community stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct organized, skill-based practices and training sessions
- Teach tennis fundamentals, match strategy, scoring, and proper etiquette
- Manage player selection, match lineups, and in-game coaching
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, matches, and team travel
- Promote a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, effort, and academic success
- Communicate clearly and regularly with players, families, and school staff
- Coordinate with the athletic department and facility staff for scheduling and court access
- Ensure full compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district policies
- Maintain equipment and records, and track player progress throughout the season
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- DASA Training
- Concussion Management Certification
- SAVE Training
- Fingerprint clearance through NYSED
- Preferred:
- Prior coaching experience in tennis at the school or club level
- Strong understanding of tennis techniques, strategy, and match play
- Ability to mentor student-athletes and support their growth on and off the court
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
