Tendering Engineer

Location: Manchester or Hebburn. We offer a flexible hybrid working model, with 2-3 days per week working remotely and the remainder spent collaborating with colleagues from our Manchester or Hebburn office. Occasional travel between sites will be required.

At Siemens Electrification & Automation (EA), we're helping to shape the future of energy infrastructure across the UK and Ireland through smarter power distribution, protection and automation solutions.

We're looking for a Tendering Engineer to develop technical and commercial proposals for medium-voltage power distribution projects. Working closely with Sales, Engineering, Procurement and Project Management teams, you'll help turn customer requirements into competitive, high-quality solutions.

This is a great opportunity for an Electrical Engineer, Design Engineer or Proposal Engineer looking to develop their career in tendering and commercial engineering while gaining exposure to major infrastructure projects.

Please note: We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Review customer enquiries, specifications and tender documents to understand technical and commercial requirements.
  • Create high-quality technical and commercial proposals for medium-voltage switchgear (AIS/GIS), protection systems and digital solutions.
  • Prepare budgetary and firm quotations, including pricing, delivery schedules and supporting proposal documentation.
  • Interpret customer requirements and develop compliant, cost-effective and competitive solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement and commercial teams to ensure accurate costings, effective risk management and proposal optimisation.
  • Support technical discussions with customers, partners and internal stakeholders throughout the bid process.
  • Provide technical clarification and guidance to sales, engineering and project delivery teams.
  • Support bid reviews, approvals and governance activities in line with Siemens processes.
  • Monitor proposal progress, maintain bid tracking tools and contribute towards order intake targets.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost optimisation and lessons learned across the tendering process.

What you’ll bring

  • HNC/HND, degree, apprenticeship qualification, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience within the energy, utilities, infrastructure, or electrical engineering industries, ideally in a tendering, engineering, project, or technical support role.
  • An awareness of switchgear, power distribution systems, or the UK power distribution market.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to handle multiple bids simultaneously.
  • A proactive attitude with a passion for innovation, quality, and customer success.

Desirable:

  • An understanding of commercial principles and cost considerations associated with tendering activities.
  • Siemens switchgear product knowledge.
  • Good understanding of MV systems and electrical power distribution principles. Experience with protection schemes, instrument transformers, or digital substation technologies.

Benefits

In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer:

  • Performance-Based Bonus: Enjoy an annual bonus linked to company performance.
  • Flexible Working Hours: Achieve a healthy work-life balance with flexible working arrangements.
  • Pension Plan: Secure your future with our generous pension scheme, with employer contributions of up to 10%.
  • Time Off: 26 days' annual leave (plus bank holidays), with the option to buy or sell up to 5 additional days!
  • Learning & Development: Access to a wide range of learning resources and development opportunities to support your career growth.
