Temporary Works Scaffold Expert

Sizewell C

Location: Hybrid, Leiston, Suffolk (minimum 3 days per week onsite).

Employment type: Permanent full-time.

Salary: Circa £90,000 per annum -dependent on experience.

As one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects, we're looking for a highly experienced Temporary Works Scaffold Expert (SME) to provide technical leadership, governance, and assurance across all scaffolding activities on the project.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the safe delivery of a nationally important programme while working alongside industry-leading engineering and construction professionals.

The Role

As the Scaffold Subject Matter Expert, you will have the opportunity to use you experience and expertise to shape how the scaffolding is managed across the project.

Working within the Sizewell C Temporary Works Team and reporting to the Temporary Works Lead, you will take overall responsibility for the safe control, coordination, and assurance of scaffold design, construction, and inspection activities across the project.

Key Responsibilities

You'll be responsible for:

Providing technical leadership and expert guidance on scaffold management.

Supporting Temporary Works Coordinators in fulfilling responsibilities under BS5975 with regards to scaffolding.

Establishing a team of Temporary Works Supervisors.

Overseeing the review and approval of scaffold design packages submitted by contractors.

Developing and maintaining the Sizewell C Scaffold Standard.

Managing competency and compliance checks for scaffolders, designers, coordinators, supervisors, and contractors.

Leading scaffold assurance activities across project partners and supply chain organisations.

Supporting scaffold procurement strategies and design delivery.

Working closely with design, construction, health & safety, and delivery teams.

Championing Health & Safety by Design principles throughout project development.

Contributing to temporary works innovation, digitalisation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

You are a knowledgeable and respected temporary works professional with extensive scaffolding expertise gained on large-scale infrastructure or engineering programmes.

You'll be confident influencing stakeholders at all levels and capable of providing both strategic direction and practical technical guidance across complex project environments.

Essential Requirements

Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline).

An extensive experience managing and implementing scaffolding activities on complex civil engineering projects

Extensive knowledge of scaffold management in accordance with BS5975.

Experience carrying out the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) role.

Strong understanding of engineering principles and construction methodologies.

Significant experience procuring scaffold designs on major civil engineering projects and inspecting advanced scaffolding

In depth knowledge of scaffolding procurement strategies, market availability and manufacturers

Significant knowledge of Working at Height

Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

CSCS Managers & Professionals Card.

CISRS Advanced Scaffold Inspection Card.

CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Certificate.

Desirable

Nuclear industry experience.

Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (EngTech, IEng or CEng MICE).

Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers.

Expertise managing contractors and consultants within highly regulated environments.
