The Project:

Are you ready to play a key role in delivering one of Sydney’s most transformative infrastructure projects? Sydney Metro West is a 24 kilometre underground railway connecting the Sydney and Parramatta CBDs, with stations at Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays Precinct, Pyrmont, and Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD.

The Linewide project is the backbone of the Sydney Metro West, seamlessly connecting all its elements and delivering the critical rail infrastructure and systems needed for metro train operations.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Temporary Works Manager to join our Linewide project team.

You will be responsible to lead and manage the temporary works design delivery process, function and team within the project life cycle.

This role will support the construction program, meet stakeholder requirements, and maintain a strong focus on driving positive outcomes across safety, quality, environment, stakeholders, community, and time.

Ensuring the management and control of temporary works is systematic to enable the construction team, external consultants and subcontractors to manage compliance through delivery, with clear delineation of responsibilities and interface management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and control the delivery of project design to ensure the achievement of quality, completion and project objectives.
  • Select and engage, then monitor the performance of external design partners within the discipline including their deliverables, costs and timeframes.
  • Manage the design approval process in accordance with project requirements and program.
  • Prepare budgets and schedules of design delivery for management approval then manage and report the cost of design delivery in the project life cycle.
  • Manage design to ensure the cost of the works meets project requirements.
  • Demonstrate commercial and contractual awareness in dealing with clients and external design partners
  • Manage client and stakeholder expectations and communicate effectively with the project team
  • Supervise the work of subordinate design and drafting staff to ensure project requirements are met
  • Select and develop design management staff within the project by providing leadership and mentoring to ensure their design management competencies
  • Understand design compliance and reporting procedures and processes and leadership in the communication of requirements
  • Foster the interaction between design and construction teams to maximise innovation and project success.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with JH policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science, Building Construction (or equivalent) and bring a detailed understanding of various Temporary Works solutions and applicable design standards.
  • Managing multidisciplinary consultants
  • Contemporary practices in design and construction methodology
  • Contractual, legal, commercial, industrial relations and legislative compliance management
  • Advanced financial management, including cost reduction and meeting budgets
  • Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk management
  • Experience managing Temporary Works consultant deliverables across complex project environments and exposure to a range of construction and delivery contract models, together with your excellent client relationship and stakeholder management skills, will see you succeed in the role.
