The Justice Involved Veterans Coordinator provides leadership for the implementation and expansion of Veteran Treatment Courts (VTCs) across South Carolina, including courts funded and unfunded by the South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs (SCDVA). This position serves as the primary advocate for Justice Involved Veterans, acting as a liaison between federal, state, and community partners to ensure Veterans have access to services and support while in the program and after successful completion of the program.
The coordinator identifies barriers, recommends legislation, and strengthens inter-agency collaboration to improve outcomes for Justice-Involved Veterans. The coordinator works with Veteran Treatment Court Coordinators to assist with services for participants, records progress of participants and outcomes. This role provides direct outreach and assistance to inform the community on the benefits of Veteran Treatment Courts for Justice Involved Veterans. This includes outreach to detention centers to identify eligible Veterans and informing Veteran Treatment Court Coordinators of eligible Veterans for their program.
Bachelor's degree in a field related to criminal justice programs of either Police Administration, Operations, Corrections, Political Science, or Social Work, and 5 years serving as a Justice Involved Veteran advocate OR 10 years of experience working in the justice system and familiarity with Veteran's Treatment Courts OR 20 years of experience in law enforcement, corrections, or social work.
