UE Manufacturing is Now Hiring Second Shift Paint Prep located at 10000 NW 2nd, Oklahoma City, OK 73127.
Under minimal direction, the Paint Prep employee develops the skills and knowledge required to safely prepare metal parts and assemblies for industrial coating. The role supports cleaning, blasting, sanding, blow-down, masking, staging, handling, housekeeping, and final preparation inspection in accordance with UE Manufacturing work instructions, customer requirements, and product-manufacturer specifications. Paint Prep is an entry-level classification that may provide a path to Painter I based on demonstrated competency, business need, and sustained performance.
Responsibilities
- Clean and prepare metal surfaces by removing oil, rust, dust, moisture, blast media, loose material, and other contaminants before coating.
- Perform basic cleaning, blasting, sanding, blow-down, masking, and staging under direct guidance; obtain inspection and approval
- Protect threads, machined surfaces, labels, openings, electrical components, and designated no-paint areas using approved tape, plugs, caps, and coverings.
- Confirm part and job identity using tags, travelers, computer, or paperwork; stage and handle parts safely without creating contamination, damage, or mix-ups.
- Complete a final visual or checklist-based preparation inspection for cleanliness, dryness, masking, damage, and readiness before handoff.
- Safely hang / unhang parts for paint.
- Use a forklift or overhead crane to load or unload parts.
- Locate and follow SDS/TDS information for PPE, hazards, and safe handling; do not mix or apply coatings unless trained, authorized, and directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned are consistent with the safe and effective operation of the department.
Qualifications
SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Consistently use required gloves, eye and face protection, hearing protection, dust mask, protective clothing, and other PPE.
- Know where to locate the PPE matrix and stop and ask when unsure.
- Follow hazard communication requirements for labels, SDS access, closed and labeled containers, ventilation, flammable materials, chemical storage, spill response, and waste handling.
- Recognize paint booth, wash bay, blast area, and shop boundaries, alarms, exits, and emergency controls; enter restricted areas only when trained and authorized.
- Maintain a strong personal commitment to safety, housekeeping, and stop-work authority. Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, spills, or exposure concerns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1 to 3 months of related experience or training; preferred.
- Basic knowledge of industrial painting, bodywork, surface preparation, or demonstrated ability to learn these processes.
- Ability to read basic work instructions, job travelers, paint codes, part tags, and blueprint information relevant to assigned preparation work.
- Ability to follow written and verbal safety instructions, chemical labels, SDS/TDS guidance, and PPE requirements.
- Ability to use common preparation tools and measuring devices after training and authorization.
- Ability to work in paint booths, shops, wash bay, or outdoor environments as assigned.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES & REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to frequently lift to 25-50 lbs. Able to lift 65 lbs. from floor to shoulder level occasionally.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by position, location, and/or customer.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while performing painting, preparation, and finishing tasks.
- Ability to frequently exert the pound force limits for push/pull 50lb f (no wheels) or 100lb f (wheels).
- Requires frequent repetitive movements, i.e. hammering, turning wrenches, screwdrivers and impact tools.
- Manual dexterity is sufficient to work with fingers.
- Normal vision with or without corrective lenses.
- Will be required to work at a minimum height of four feet off the ground.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Exposed to cold, heat, noise mechanical/electrical fume or odor.
- Will be required on occasion to work more than 8 hours on one shift.
- Requires crawling and working in narrow spaces.
