POSITION/ROLE OVERVIEW
The Front of House area at The New School’s College of Performing Arts is seeking highly qualified Overhire Ushers to join its team. Reporting to the Manager of Event Operations, the Overhire Usher is directly responsible for greeting and assisting patrons, distributing printed programs, and checking in audience members using an app-based system.
Ushers are a key part of the patron experience at the College of Performing Arts. Ushers will make patrons feel welcome at performance events by greeting them and helping them navigate on-campus facilities and performance venues. Ushers will assist with additional operational tasks such as facilitating artist entry from the greenroom or executing some light stage changes during performances.
Formed in 2015, the College of Performing Arts draws together the Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the School of Drama. College of Performing Arts students are actors, musicians, performers, writers, improvisers, creative technologists, entrepreneurs, composers, arts managers, and multidisciplinary artists. Our community collaborates with colleagues across The New School in a wide array of disciplines, from the visual arts and fashion design, to the social sciences, public policy, advocacy, and more.
This is an overhire position without regular or guaranteed weekly hours. Opportunities for work will be scheduled on an as-needed basis by the Front of House department. This position may be renewed pending institutional need and availability of funding.
CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Greet patrons and answer their questions about the performance as well as on-site facilities and performance venues
Distribute printed programs to patrons
Check in patrons using an app-based check-in system
Execute stage changes and/or lighting changes for classical music recitals when assigned
Additional responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Background and education in the performing arts
Punctual, responsible, and personable
Ability to work evenings and weekends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
2 years usher experience
2 years customer service experience
4-year Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience
WORK MODE
This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement. #LI-Onsite
SALARY RANGE
$18.00/hour
