Fort Towson Historic Site

Oklahoma Historical Society

The Oklahoma Historical Society is seeking a part-time position to assist with operations at Fort Towson Historic Site, a large archaeological site with structural ruins of the original fort, reconstructed buildings, and a modern museum in Fort Towson. The position will also help maintain other sites, such as Doaksville, that are operated by the Fort Towson Historic Site staff.

Duties Include:

  • Assist with general maintenance on site grounds which may include but not limited to mowing, weed eating, and trimming, tree cutting and removal, and spraying of vegetation.
  • Performing daily maintenance and cleaning of grounds.
  • Required when necessary to operate the museum which includes greeting guests, taking admissions, and museum store sales. This will include the occasional Saturday, when Historical Interpretive staff are off site, and during events.
  • Assist with keeping the museum and store clean.
  • Communicate any needs for site maintenance and repairs to supervisor.
  • Assist with maintaining facilities, tools, and equipment.
  • Be good with heights to climb ladders while changing lightbulbs, cleaning rain gutters, along with other duties off the ground.
  • Stay current on and observe safety policies.
  • Be able to drive a dually truck and if possible, an attached trailer.
  • Assist with special events and programs, including setup, implementation, and clean-up as needed.

The regular schedule will be three days per week, Monday through Friday. Days and hours will be set by the director and site’s head of maintenance in conjunction with the newly hired person. Must be able to work Saturdays and temporarily change schedule as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
