The City of Roanoke is seeking a Library Assistant I to perform clerical work in the public library system. The successful candidate will charge and discharge library materials, registers patrons, assists in controlling status of materials in circulation; maintain files and records; assist the public in the use of library facilities; locate books, magazines and other materials as requested; and provide general library information. They will also examine shelves, replaces incorrectly shelved books; inspect and repair library materials; and prepare library materials for circulation. This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in a clerical environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Library Assistant - Youth Services The City of Roanoke is seeking a Library Assistant to work under the direction of the Manager of Youth Services to provide support for key library efforts with youth. The successful applicant will work with staff on the Star City Reads initiative to maximize community participation and contributions, while focusing on campaign goals set forth in the community solutions action plan. Responsibilities include working with the Director of Libraries and Youth Services to oversee volunteers, program planning and reports. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in a clerical environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience and education on early and childhood literacy preferred. Technical experience in data entry, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Part-Time Library Assistant The City of Roanoke is seeking a Library Assistant to perform clerical and customer service work in the public library system. The successful candidate will charge and discharge library materials, register patrons, assist in controlling status of materials in circulation; maintain files and records; assist the public in the use of library facilities; and locate books, magazines and other materials as requested. They will also provide general library information, examine shelves, replace incorrectly shelved books, work with staff on programs for adults and children and prepare library materials for circulation. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in a clerical environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
