The Lu Lab is seeking a temporary Laboratory Technician to support ongoing research projects. The technician will perform routine laboratory procedures according to standardized protocols and report results. The technician will receive general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions and training on new assignments. The technician will receive regular supervision for most assignments.

Expected to perform the following duties after appropriate training:

  • Supports the team to achieve the lab goals established by the supervisor. Contribute to the completion of assigned tasks through the quality and efficiency of the work.
  • Performs routine procedures according to standardized protocols that may include, but not limited, to DNA/RNA /protein extraction, ELISA, Flow Cytometry, maintaining cell cultures, preparing solutions and reagents, handling research animals, etc. using standard techniques and/or complex lab equipment.
  • Uses basic analytical skills, including literature and database searches, to solve task-related problems.
  • Keeps supervisor and co-workers informed of problems with the lab procedures that are not working effectively or if a mistake has been made.
  • Maintains a lab notebook (can be electronic) in an appropriate manner of all tasks performed.
  • Presents task-related updates and results generated at laboratory meetings.
  • May organize freezers, lab equipment, chemicals, reagents, and/or glassware according to supervisor's directive, and re-stock tips as needed.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean work environment in compliance with safety and according to federal regulations.
  • Performs additional job-related duties as requested by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong interest in biomedical research.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills, including Internet software, order processing system, and Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be professional, team-oriented, and personable.
  • Must be able to take direction/follow instructions.
  • Ability to record/maintain meticulous records.

Work Hours

Flexible schedule with an average of 30 hours per week.
