Under limited supervision, performs painting and industrial coating applications on equipment and products. May requires being transported by fixed wing, rotor or other means of Project approved transportation. Employee is subject to non-continuous multi-shift work schedules and 24 hour, 7 day per week call out. Employee is committed to achieve the highest goals of excellence in serving our customers and working with fellow employees. May direct the work of other in the performance of duties.

What You'll Do

  • Lays out and performs new and maintenance exterior or interior finish quality painting on tanks, power plants, microwave stations, fences, substations, transformers and switching equipment, power poles and light poles. Using brushes, rollers, spray guns and related equipment as requested.
  • Applies metallized coatings using thermal spray process.
  • Performs complete surface preparation prior to coating or painting, using paint removal equipment, including sand and shot blasting, scrapers, etc.
  • Mixes paints and coatings to meet with specified requirements.
  • Lays out and performs incidental parking lot restriping.
  • Orders and maintains stock of paints, coatings and supplies.
  • Prepares work reports and field and shop environmental paint and related products usage reports.
  • Is responsible for personal safety and the safety of others and that all work is accomplished in a cost effective manner.
  • Perform accurate cost estimates and project schedules on job related work.
  • Perform related work as required as workloads vary and are adjusted by supervisory personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.

Experience

4 years of experience as a 2nd Class Painter or General Mechanic in Mechanical Services, or equivalent experience.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications

Required to have all necessary hand tools to perform job duties. Ability to work effectively in a team environment to achieve common goals. Considerable courtesy and cooperation is required to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees and customers. Ability to employ safe working practices under all working conditions. Ability to understand, carry out and explain detailed oral and written instructions, schematics, blue prints and technical manuals. Ability to troubleshoot and perform work functions without direct supervision. Ability to direct and coordinate the work of others. Ability to effectively work under varying schedules, imposed deadlines and under emergency conditions. Ability to understand job costs and work within a budget allocation.

  • Must have valid Arizona Operator’s license and DOT certification.
  • Required to become certified on various pieces of equipment, including personnel lifting equipment.

Testing and Certifications

Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.
