Human Resources Business Partner

40 hours/week

Waterloo, Ontario

Karis Disability Services is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to provide strategic and operational HR support across assigned communities. This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional who is passionate about employee relations, labour relations, leadership coaching, and fostering positive workplace cultures.

The Human Resources Business Partner serves as a trusted advisor to leaders, helping navigate complex employment matters while promoting best practices, compliance, and organizational effectiveness. As a key member of the People and Culture team, you will contribute to initiatives that support employee engagement, organizational growth, and exceptional service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Partner with Leaders

• Provide guidance and coaching on employee and labour relations matters, including performance management, attendance management, workplace conflict, accommodation, corrective action, and policy interpretation.
• Support leaders in navigating Employment Standards, human rights obligations, workplace investigations, and employment legislation.
• Attend leadership meetings and provide HR expertise and recommendations.
• Prepare and review employment-related documentation, including corrective action, termination, and legal correspondence.
• Deliver training and workshops on HR-related topics.

Labour Relations Support

• Interpret and administer collective agreements.
• Support grievance management, investigations, mediation, and dispute resolution.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with union representatives.
• Participate in collective bargaining preparation and negotiations.
• Assist with arbitration processes and coordination with external legal counsel.

Drive Organizational Excellence

• Lead and support HR initiatives, projects, and committee work.
• Recommend improvements to HR policies, processes, and systems.
• Stay informed on legislative changes, HR trends, and best practices.
• Support workplace investigations, conflict resolution processes, and organizational change initiatives.

Support the People and Culture Team

• Provide mentorship and support to the People and Culture team members.
• Research HR trends and prepare reports and recommendations.
• Assist with escalated employee relations, disability management, and administrative concerns.
• Contribute to continuous improvement within the People and Culture department.

Requirements:

• Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) strongly preferred.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
• Labour relations experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of Employment Standards legislation, labour relations, and employment law.
• Experience managing grievances, workplace investigations, and arbitration preparation.
• Excellent conflict resolution, mediation, and coaching skills.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
• Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.

Salary Range: $80,745 - $91,644
