Job Description

Golf Course Maintenance Worker

Starting Hourly Rate $16.93

Nature of Work

  • This position involves semi-skilled manual and skilled equipment operation work in golf course maintenance
  • Responsible for watering greens, and tees
  • Maintains sand traps
  • Changes cups on greens and tee markers
  • Mows turf with sophisticated golf maintenance equipment and picks up debris, leaves, and broken tree limb
  • Performs related work as required
  • Reports to permanent Golf Course Green Keepers

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, and follow oral and written instructions without close supervision
  • Skilled in the use of hand and mechanical tools and equipment
  • Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment. The City offers CPR/AED and First Aid classes, which are free to Parks employees. Please note, your certification must be from an organization that has been approved by the Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing Division. Please see following link for list of approved organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the proper use and operation of equipment used in golf course maintenance
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D Equivalent and some experience in grounds keeping; or any equivalent combination of education and experience

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions (i.e., domestic and wild animals, mechanical parts, vibration, etc.), extreme temperatures, and intense noise. Required to wear hearing protection. Required to walk on uneven terrain.

The work often involves the ability to perform routine moderate lifting and carrying up to 50lbs. including backpack mowers, tree trimmers, fertilizer bags and buckets with sand.
