Job Description

TITLE: Temporary Food Services Technician and Driver � Central Kitchen

Portland Public Schools is seeking a reliable Food Services Technician and Driver to temporarily support The Food Service Department.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate medium weight truck in picking up and delivering food and supplies from school to school
  • Load and unload trucks and perform receiving duties for deliveries (delivery trucks such as PFG, Central Paper Products, Tractor Trailer deliveries, etc...)
  • Perform maintenance work, services vehicles with gas and water
  • Perform preventative maintenance on trucks and specialized kitchen equipment; this will include the ability to locate, diagnose, and repair malfunctions and to test repaired equipment
  • Oversee the cleaning of the Central Kitchen production areas in the building and groundskeeping of the building including shoveling and snow blowing
  • Assure that appropriate health laws are followed in regards to the cleaning of kitchen areas and its equipment
  • Maintain inventories and provide kitchen with needed supplies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work in a freezer area at temperatures of -10 degrees fahrenheit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to routinely lift up to 70 pounds
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain a 22-foot refrigerated box truck

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience driving trucks and an excellent driving record
  • High school or trade school diploma, or an equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Certification (or ability to obtain certification) in running motorized materials-handling equipment
  • Other combinations of applicable education training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position will be considered

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

  • Assignment: Temporary
  • Schedule: Full Time (40 hours/week)
  • Shift: 5:30 am�2:00 pm
  • Wage: $26 per hour
  • Benefits: This temporary position is not eligible for employer benefits, but does accrue Earned Paid Leave (EPL) as per Maine law (1 hour of leave for every 40 hours worked). More details can be found here
