POSITION TITLE: TEMPORARY FAMILY SERVICES CASE WORKER

SUPERVISOR: CORPS OFFICER

STATUS: TEMPORARY/PART-TIME/NON-EXEMPT

This is a temporary position lasting 3-6 months, with an undetermined end date.

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Family Services Case Worker is an advocate. They are responsible for providing front-line and follow-up assistance to individuals presenting a variety of needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform casework services to include client interviews, needs assessments, and case management.
  • Work within the approved budget to provide emergency food and direct financial assistance in the form of emergency rent, utilities and prescriptions.
  • Assist with the receiving and processing of food as directed by the Director of Social Services.
  • Assist Director with the preparation and submission of reports and statistics.
  • Assist Director with maintenance of an active information and referral system.
  • Assist Director with the maintenance of all filing systems – both hard copies and computer files – as they pertain to Family Services.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all funding source guidelines (Siebel, EFSP, etc.).
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls as needed.
  • Preform light janitorial duties as needed (vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing, etc.)
  • Be familiar with and maintain Protecting the Mission compliance.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required; including but not limited to Divisional/Territorial Social Services Conferences, Protecting the Mission – child safety training, and The Salvation Army fleet safety training.
  • Assist with seasonal efforts, which may include but are not limited to: Summer Camp Registrations, Christmas Intake/Distribution, toy sorting, and data entry.
  • Adherence to employee dress codes while working.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Social Services / Corps Officers.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a High School graduate or equivalent. An AA degree or comparable years of work experience preferred.
  • Must submit to and pass a background check.
  • Must complete Protecting the Mission – child safety training.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be a minimum of 21 years old.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Must possess the ability to work as part of a dynamic, high performing team and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have the ability to relate positively to people from diverse backgrounds and communicate well with the general public.
  • Willingness to accept and implement The Salvation Army’s philosophy for social work assistance, while supporting the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Be flexible and open to new ideas, concepts, and ways of doing things while keeping pace with multiple priorities.
  • Possess the ability to work well independently and in a detailed, professional and courteous manner.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use basic office machines/equipment.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher and Power Point) and possess the ability to use Social Media.
  • Able to pass a motor vehicle check as well as complete The Salvation Army driving test.

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS

  • Ability to learn and utilize basic software tools for timekeeping and food inventory (e.g., Microsoft Excel, meal planning apps, etc.) and Salvation Army online platforms

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as food boxes and reach overhead
  • Ability to operate telephone
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer
  • Ability to understand written information
