Equipment Operator I

Starting Hourly Rate $17.78

This position involves semi-skilled manual and skilled equipment operation work in golf course maintenance. Responsible for watering greens, and tees; maintain sand traps; and change cups on greens and tee markers. Mow turf with sophisticated golf maintenance equipment and pick up debris, leaves, and broken tree limbs. Perform related work as required. Reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and/or Assistant Greenskeeper.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor and follow oral and written instructions without close supervision
  • Skill in the use of hand and mechanical tools and equipment is necessary
  • Experience in operating backhoes, loaders and other heavy equipment
  • Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment. The City offers CPR/AED and First Aid classes, which are free to Parks employees. Please note, your certification must be from an organization that has been approved by the Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing Division. Please see link for list of approved organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school, and some experience in grounds keeping or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the proper use and operation of equipment used in golf course maintenance.
  • Mechanical aptitude and past experience as large equipment operator (such as large trucks, tractors, mower, golf course equipment, etc.).

Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions (i.e., domestic and wild animals, mechanical parts, vibration, etc.), extreme temperatures, and intense noise. Required to wear hearing protection. Required to walk on uneven terrain.

The work often involves the ability to perform routine moderate lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. including backpack mowers, tree trimmers, fertilizer bags and buckets with sand.
