Job Title: Transportation Logistics Driver

Primary Purpose:

Drive Lubbock ISD's marching band equipment trailers to and from football games, marching band competitions, rehearsals, and other district events as assigned. Responsibilities include conducting required pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and ensuring the safe and secure transport of district equipment.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Must possess a CDL A driver's license

Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Completing required trip documentation

Complying with all applicable DOT regulations and district safety policies

Must be 18 years of age

Must possess a CDL A Driver's License

Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam

Ability to complete required bus driver safety training

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses

Ability to manage student behavior

Ability to communicate effectively with others

Ability to work effectively with Fine Arts staff, campus personnel, and event staff

Ability to follow event schedules and coordinate with Fine Arts directors

Experience:

1. Experience operating commercial vehicles and transporting trailers preferred.
2. Experience driving vehicles requiring a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) and demonstrating safe driving practices preferred.
3. Experience performing pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, securing and transporting equipment safely, and complying with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations preferred.
4. Experience following assigned routes and schedules, maintaining required trip documentation, and communicating effectively with supervisors and event personnel preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Vehicle Operation

1.Drive truck following assigned route and adhering to established schedules.

2.Drive truck to and from extracurricular activities.

3.Anticipate traffic, weather, road conditions, and schedule changes to ensure the safe and timely transport of district equipment.

4.Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections according to specifications to ensure the truck can be operated safely and notify supervisor of needed repairs. Keep assigned truck clean and maintain an appropriate level of fuel.

5. Report accidents, vehicle or trailer damage, equipment damage, injuries, and mechanical problems, and complete all required reports.

Safety

6.Observe all traffic laws, commercial motor vehicle regulations, DOT requirements, and district safety procedures.

7.Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crowbar, and reflector.

8.Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. Report any hazardous conditions along scheduled route.

9.Install snow chains during inclement weather.

10.Maintain safety certification.

11.Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Other

12.Operate and monitor two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office and other drivers.

13.Complete and maintain accurate, up-to-date, and timely records and reports including but not limited to those related to bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.

14. Verify that equipment trailers are properly loaded and secured prior to departure.

15. Assist Fine Arts staff with opening, positioning, and securing trailers at event sites as needed.

16. Remain with or near the vehicle/trailer during events when required to ensure security and to reposition equipment as directed.

17. Assist with returning trailers to district facilities and ensuring equipment is secured following events.

18. Report equipment or trailer damage to the supervisor.

Tools/Equipment Used: Operate truck; two-way radio; global positioning system (GPS); safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling

Motion: Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching

Lifting: Frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance.

Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
