Job Description

Qualifications

  • Must have passed competency tests pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-8e prior to being hired. Summers County Schools can provide competency tests.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Applicant must meet qualifications outlined in the Summers County Job Description Handbook and be considered in accordance with WV Code 18A-4-8b.
  • Drug test conducted pursuant to Summers County Board of Education Policy IV-H-1.
  • Criminal Background Check conducted pursuant to Summers County Board of Education Policy IV-G-4.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 90 pounds.
  • Demonstrated basic math skills.
  • Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and material handling devices.

Employment Term

Minimum 240 days annually. The Position will last until the regular employee resigns or returns to work.

Salary

Pay Grade C or as determined by applicable state service personnel classification and county assignment.

Responsible To

Director of Facilities, Principal, Director, or Superintendent, as assigned.

The Facilities Operations Specialist performs a variety of custodial, maintenance, groundskeeping, warehouse, shipping, receiving, inventory, and facility support functions to ensure school facilities, grounds, equipment, and supplies are maintained in a safe, clean, organized, and efficient manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Custodial and Building Operations

  • Maintain school buildings in a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Follow written and oral instructions regarding custodial responsibilities.
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials as directed.
  • Act as a watchperson for facilities and grounds when assigned.
  • Monitor buildings and grounds for safety concerns, vandalism, trespassing, and fire hazards.
  • Maintain positive work habits and perform duties efficiently and productively.
  • Supervise custodial staff when assigned.

Maintenance and Groundskeeping

  • Work with maintenance supervisors and staff to complete repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Make minor repairs to facilities, furnishings, and equipment.
  • Inspect buildings and grounds and report deficiencies.
  • Perform routine lubrication services and preventative maintenance.
  • Operate heating, cooling, lighting, ventilation, and electrical controls as required.
  • Remove snow and ice from school property as assigned.
  • Maintain grounds in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Perform landscaping, mowing, hauling, painting, roofing, asphalting, and other manual labor tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain safe and organized work and storage areas.
  • Maintain and improve job-related skills.

Warehouse and Inventory Operations

  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments.
  • Record discrepancies, shortages, or damage on packing slips, bills of lading, and purchase orders.
  • Label and identify incoming inventory.
  • Load, unload, move, and store goods using appropriate equipment.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment, including pallet jacks, dollies, and delivery vehicles as authorized.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and secure warehouse and storage areas.
  • Maintain receiving, shipping, inventory, and maintenance records.
  • Conduct physical inventories of supplies and materials.
  • Fill requisitions and distribute supplies as directed.
  • Monitor inventory levels and request replenishment of supplies as needed.
  • Develop and maintain warehouse location and inventory systems.

Shipping, Delivery, and Distribution

  • Package and ship goods using appropriate methods and materials.
  • Determine the most effective and economical shipping methods.
  • Prepare bills of lading and other shipping documentation.
  • Track inbound and outbound shipments when requested.
  • Safely open containers using proper procedures and tools.
  • Deliver mail, supplies, equipment, food, and materials throughout the county school system.
  • Support the distribution of food and supplies for the countywide school nutrition program.

Records and Compliance

  • Maintain all required county records, logs, inventories, and documentation.
  • Follow all Board policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Assist with compliance inspections and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all job-related activities.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor, Director, Principal, Director of Student Services, Director of Facilities, or Superintendent.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
  • Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Use of cleaning equipment, maintenance tools, motorized equipment, and warehouse equipment.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and other workplace conditions typical of school facilities and maintenance operations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform physical labor.
  • Ability to operate vehicles, maintenance equipment, and warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.
