This is a temporary Benefits Specialist position expected to last approximately six months, beginning on or around August 3, 2026, and ending on or around January 29, 2027. We are seeking a motivated, customer-focused, and solutions-driven individual to join our team to support the preparation of and through the duration of the Open Enrollment period. As the Benefits Specialist, you will respond to employees, dependents, and providers' questions regarding benefit programs, eligibility, and coverage provisions. You will research and resolve benefit plan discrepancies and verify that benefit premiums and administrative charges are calculated and administered appropriately.

We Require
Two years of experience working in benefits administration for a self-funded, employer-sponsored group health plan or related field
Two years of experience in customer service
High school diploma or GED
We Also Value
Experience working in Human Resources
Experience with self-funded health and welfare benefits
Experience in a phone-intensive, customer service-oriented environment
Experience with Workday or other HRIS systems
Documented HIPAA training and experience handling confidential material in a healthcare or employment environment
Job Contributions
Provide excellent customer service to Maricopa County employees regarding all aspects of their Benefits and Wellness, including medical, pharmacy, behavioral health, dental, vision, short-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, voluntary benefits, and wellness incentive
Answer incoming phone calls in a phone-intensive environment, respond to questions from employees, providers, and vendors regarding the County’s benefits plans, including interpreting eligibility, plan documents, insurance carrier contracts, and coverage provisions
Investigate and resolve employee concerns regarding benefits-related matters such as covered benefits, eligibility, cost, etc
Utilize multiple software applications simultaneously, including vendors’ portals, and track all actions in the benefits case management and call recording systems
Comply with regulatory, financial, tax, and legal requirements for administering the Maricopa County benefits plans, including HIPAA privacy and security
Participate in the annual Open Enrollment processes including planning events, answering questions, testing, and completing a variety of Open Enrollment tasks
Verify that benefits premiums and administrative charges are being calculated and administered appropriately
Write clear, concise benefits-related material using technical language, proper grammar, and correct punctuation, and tailor these communications to the targeted audience
Complete Benefit Partner tasks as assigned in the Workday system
Working Conditions
Work occurs in an indoor office environment
Tasks require manual dexterity of hands and body to operate office equipment and manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, and multiple, complicated, and unscheduled tasks
Job includes team-oriented activities and interaction with all levels of County management and personnel, and the public
