Under the general supervision of the Transportation & Utility Operations Engineer, performs technical and administrative support work related to the entry, update, verification, and maintenance of infrastructure asset data within the City’s GIS and asset management systems. Assists with data quality control, records reconciliation, field verification, and related documentation to support effective municipal operations, maintenance planning, and capital decision-making.

Starting Pay: $25.00 per hour

Schedule: Full time, temporary, 4 x10-hour shifts per week

FLSA Status Non-Exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Updates, edits, and validates asset records within the City’s GIS, asset management, and related database systems.
  • Reviews asset information for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established data standards.
  • Performs data entry and record maintenance using source documents, maps, spreadsheets, work orders, and field notes.
  • Assists in reconciling discrepancies between GIS records, asset inventories, departmental databases, and other operational records.
  • Conducts field verification of asset locations, attributes, and conditions, as assigned.
  • Documents data corrections, identified issues, and unresolved discrepancies for review by supervisory or technical staff.
  • Assists with the preparation of maps, reports, inventories, and data extracts for operational, maintenance, and planning purposes.
  • Coordinates with Public Works staff and other City departments to obtain, confirm, and organize asset information.
  • Maintains organized electronic and manual records in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Complies with applicable City policies, departmental procedures, and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of generally accepted practices related to database management, records maintenance, and data quality control.
  • Working knowledge of GIS concepts, mapping applications, and asset inventory recordkeeping.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use City software applications related to GIS, asset management, spreadsheets, and database entry.
  • Ability to review data for accuracy, identify inconsistencies, and make routine corrections within established procedures.
  • Ability to interpret maps, tables, forms, and technical source materials.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and exercise close attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, employees, and other departments.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work independently.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Coursework or training in GIS, geography, engineering technology, information systems, computer applications, or a closely related field is preferred
  • Experience in data entry, records management, GIS applications, asset management systems, or public works support functions is preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Language Skills

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Communicate effectively and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documents, maps, procedures, and manuals.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and concise records, notes, and routine correspondence.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Possess a valid Utah driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one.

Physical Demands

  • Moderate physical activity is required. Work involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and repetitive hand movement associated with computer and office equipment use. Incumbent may be required to lift and carry light materials and equipment and perform occasional field work in varying weather conditions.

Work Environment

  • Moderate mental effort is required daily with frequent exposure to stress associated with deadlines, data accuracy requirements, and coordination with multiple departments. Work is performed in both office and field environments and may include exposure to traffic, construction activity, uneven terrain, and seasonal weather conditions.
