Field Engineer I - Security & Structured Cabling

Location: Temple, TX

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire (6 Months)

Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site

Overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Field Engineer I to support security, access control, and structured cabling projects within a data center environment. This position is ideal for a technician who has a strong background in low-voltage systems, troubleshooting, and field installations, and who is looking to grow into a technical leadership role.

The Field Engineer will be responsible for overseeing technical aspects of installations, troubleshooting and commissioning systems, ensuring quality standards are met, and providing support to project managers and field teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues with security, access control, and low-voltage systems.
  • Test and commission newly installed systems to ensure proper functionality.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, system drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Create and maintain shop drawings, redlines, and project documentation.
  • Perform quality assurance inspections and generate project punch lists.
  • Support installation teams by providing technical guidance and field expertise.
  • Conduct site surveys and document existing conditions for future project work.
  • Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and clients throughout project execution.
  • Assist with project closeouts, documentation control, and startup activities.
  • Help identify process improvements and promote best practices across project teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience installing, troubleshooting, or supporting security and access control systems.
  • Experience with structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, riser diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in data centers, commercial facilities, or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of access control, CCTV, and integrated security systems.
  • Experience leading crews or serving as a technical lead on projects.
  • Familiarity with project documentation, commissioning, and quality assurance processes.
  • Low-voltage or industry certifications are a plus.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
