The UNM Department of CTE invites applicants to apply for a Temporary Part-Time Faculty (Adjunct) member to teach one of the following subject areas for Spring, Summer and Fall of 2027. This posting is primarily for face-to-face instruction and potentially some remote delivery of courses.

These positions will be hired on an as needed basis dependent on student enrollment, course offering matrix, and graduation requirements. The specific courses include, but are not limited to, the following:

CDL 110. CDL A. (3)

Knowledge portion of the CDL training, which covers a broad range of topics including preparation for NM CDL knowledge test, safety, career choices, log books, mapping, load weights and distribution.

CDL 111. CDL ROAD DRIVING. (3)

Student time is spent behind the wheel of tractor-trailer driving on public roads and developing the skills necessary to operate a tractor-trailer safely and prepare the students for the road portion of the NM CDL skills test.

CDL 120. CDL RANGE & YARD SKILLS. (3)

Yard skills focus on developing the skills needed to successfully maneuver a tractor-trailer. These are primarily comprised of backing skills and replicate what it would be like to back into a customer’s loading dock, as well as other maneuvers. These skills are also necessary for passing the NM CDL skills test.

We propose a base salary of $1,157.97 to $1,240.17 per credit hour depending on successful candidates’ qualifications. This posting is for both face to face and remote delivery of courses.

Position Summary

UNM-Taos is seeking an experienced Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) professional to serve as an Adjunct Instructor within our 12-credit-hour, DOT-approved CDL training program. This position is ideal for an commercial driver who is interested in sharing their industry knowledge and helping students prepare for successful entry into the commercial transportation workforce.

The CDL Adjunct Instructor will primarily support the CDL A classroom/theory and commercial learner’s permit preparation components of the program and will work collaboratively with the CDL instructional team to prepare students for behind-the-wheel training. The instructor will also participate in the college’s Integrated Education and Training (IET) model, which intentionally connects foundational skills, technical instruction, and workforce preparation within a single student pathway.

This is an opportunity to bring real-world commercial driving experience into the classroom and help students develop the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to enter a high-demand career field.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

To teach or develop courses in the field or subfield for which you are applying are determined by Higher Learning Commission’s accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met in these ways:

  • Current, valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Current, valid New Mexico Driver’s License.
  • Minimum of three years of work-related experience operating commercial motor vehicles/trucks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commercial driving practices, safety requirements, and applicable DOT/FMCSA regulations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information and work with students from diverse educational and professional backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience training, mentoring, or supervising commercial drivers.
  • Experience with CDL theory, CLP preparation, or commercial driver training.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Education and Training (IET) models.
  • Commitment to helping students successfully transition from training into employment.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understand of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
