TITLE: Temporary Painter/ Carpenter

REPORTS TO: Structural Systems Supervisor

STATUS/HOURS: TEMP/ Full-time, 40 hours per week, through mid- December or early January. Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Schedule may vary according to departmental and Academy needs.

FLSA: Non-Exempt (hourly)

CLASSIFICATION: Staff

WAGE: $33.00- $34.50 Based on relevant experience

Position Purpose

This position efficiently maintains and preserves the Academy’s interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, structures, fixtures, and equipment to ensure a clean, safe and appealing appearance for those visiting, residing in, and working on campus.

Key Accountabilities

• Perform work in a safe and professional manner
• Repair surfaces before painting, filling holes and cracks with putty or patching plaster
• Prepare surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, brushing, sanding, or sealing
• Repairing and patching drywall, plaster, and stucco as needed.
• Removing and installing architectural hardware, including hinges, latches as needed
• Roll, brush, or spray paint onto exterior surfaces, walls, ceilings, floors, equipment, trim, and molding in or on buildings and structures.
• Apply fine finish spray painting in spray booth using HVLP (high volume low pressure) paint guns and paint machines and maintain equipment.
• Tint paints using compact color dispenser and perform maintenance on dispenser.
• Protect work areas against dripping, splashing, and overspray
• Disassemble, refinish, and move furniture as needed
• Erect ladders and scaffolding and be able to work on the same
• Maintain all painting tools and other equipment
• Glaze windows as needed
• Use high pressure washer to clean surfaces as needed.
• Removing snow and ice from roofs gutters, and roof leaders
• Basic carpentry skills
• Perform lead testing for painting projects to assure compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) rule.
• Identify restoration projects on campus, develop work scope, plan and execute. Preparing records of material and time expended
• Attend the Environmental Protection Agency’s lead safe training - Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) rule to become a Certified Renovator.
• Perform lead testing on painting projects and when lead is present follow lead safe work practices in compliance with RRP rule.
• When requested by Safety and Environmental Compliance Manager perform RRP on areas identified as lead in Lead Inspection Report and document results.
• Perform research and make recommendations to manager regarding the purchase of new paint products for better performance and/or products containing low VOC (volatile organic compounds) to help reduce carbon footprint.
• Perform research and make recommendations to manager regarding the purchase of new tools and equipment to improve quality and/or efficiency, and when applicable arrange for vendors to provide a demonstration of new equipment prior to purchase.
• Utilize mobile devices and a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to receive, document, and complete work order requests.
• Observing and reporting, through the CMMS, defects, deterioration and wear and tear on the facilities
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience

• Minimum of three years painting experience.
• Familiarity working on scaffolding, staging, bucket trucks and ladders preferred.
• Proper knowledge of working with lead based paint.

Education

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

1. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, and well as stoop, kneel, crouch and lift requires standing, stretching, bending, walking, climbing stairs, and lifting and transporting a minimum of 50 lbs.
2. Must be able to work in confined areas and areas subject to extreme heat and cold temperatures including inclement weather.
