Job Summary

The Telecommunications Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing telecommunications equipment within an assigned territory. This role requires strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to analyze customer and technology requirements in support of reliable telecommunications operations. The successful candidate will work independently and collaboratively, applying telecommunications principles, field experience, and effective communication skills to support customers, team members, and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and apply electronic schematics, functional diagrams, work packages, and construction documentation.
  • Use telecommunications test equipment, including OTDR, FTDR, TIMS, communication service monitors, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, data analyzers, and other specialty test instruments.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, install, program, test, maintain, and repair telecommunications systems and related equipment across assigned locations.
  • Support fiber optics, transport systems, microwave, packet radio, SONET, DWDM, telephone systems, network interfaces, VoIP, wireless systems, two-way radio, trunked radio, paging, SCADA, wireless networking, data networking, switches, routers, antenna networks, towers, feedlines, combiners, duplexers, power systems, batteries, rectifiers, inverters, UPS equipment, and grounding systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with customers, peers, leadership, and cross-functional teams while demonstrating strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Perform assigned work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, and business expectations.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electronics, telecommunications, or a related technical field from an accredited two-year college; or equivalent technical certification from a civilian or military electronics technical school covering digital, analog, and communications theory.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience installing, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining telecommunications equipment and systems may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with fiber optics, transport systems, microwave, packet radio, SONET, DWDM, network interfaces, VoIP, two-way radio, trunked radio, paging, SCADA, wireless networking, switches, routers, antenna networks, towers, feedlines, combiners, duplexers, batteries, rectifiers, inverters, UPS equipment, and grounding systems.
  • Ability to carry required tools and test equipment, work at elevated heights, and perform work in confined or close spaces as needed.

Mobility Classification

  • Field Mobility Classification - Work location is highly mobile, working at various facilities or field locations with occasional onsite meetings after the onboarding period. Employee must live within a reasonable commute to the posted reporting location, not greater than 50 miles one way.
