Job Description

Koniag Management Solutions, LLC (KMS), a Koniag Government Services (KGS) company, is hiring a Telecommunications Design Engineer. Position requires an active Top Secret/SCI clearance with ability to obtain additional security requirements. Please do not apply if you do not possess the required Top-Secret Clearance.

We are seeking a highly experienced Telecommunications Design Engineer to support enterprise data center and telecommunications infrastructure design, operations, and long-range modernization planning. This role requires a strong blend of hands on Operations & Maintenance (O&M) work, detailed engineering documentation, and strategic architectural analysis. The ideal candidate will maintain and develop core infrastructure designs that comply with Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily O&M activities including direct-touch maintenance, troubleshooting, configuration updates, and provisioning for telecommunications and data center systems.
• Analyze IT and telecommunications architectures to develop long range engineering strategies and modernization roadmaps.
• Create and maintain key engineering work products including:
◦ IT and telecommunications roadmaps
◦ Engineering configurations and design packages
◦ Rack elevations and physical infrastructure drawings
◦ Bills of materials (BOMs)
◦ As-built documentation
• Ensure all data center and telecommunications network designs adhere to DoD, commercial industry, and enterprise architecture standards.
• Design and support Layer 1 and Layer 2 infrastructure including copper and fiber cabling systems, patch panels, racks, cabinets, and switching hardware.
• Engineer and maintain systems supporting data centers, conference rooms, communications closets, pathways, and structured cabling plants.
• Oversee infrastructure power and environmental systems including UPS, ATS, battery systems, HVAC cooling, and related facility integrations.
• Manage logistics for site readiness, installation planning, staging, and implementation.
• Provide expert-level guidance on telecommunications standards, structured cabling, physical layer design, and best practices.
• Prepare detailed engineering diagrams, topology maps, and infrastructure documentation for technical and accreditation processes.

Required Qualifications:

• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• 12+ years of experience analyzing, designing, and developing IT and telecommunications infrastructure using DoD and commercial standards.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
• Required DoD 8140 certifications (any one of):
◦ Network+
◦ Security+
◦ Cloud+
◦ SSCP
◦ CASP+
◦ CISSP
◦ CCNP Security
• Required technical certifications:
◦ Vendor/OEM network infrastructure certification
◦ BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) or equivalent design credential

Preferred Certifications (Plus):

• BICSI RCDD (if not already required)
• BICSI senior design specialization or advanced pathways/cabling certifications
• CCNA
• CTS D (for AV/communications integration environments)
• Manufacturer design certifications (e.g., Cisco, HPE Aruba, CommScope, Corning)

Required Technical Knowledge:

• Detailed understanding of Layer 1 and Layer 2 IT infrastructure and physical hardware.
• Expertise in:
◦ Data center design
◦ Conference room and AV communications integration
◦ Communications closets and structured cabling pathways
◦ Power, cooling, UPS, ATS, and electrical support systems
◦ Copper and fiber cabling specifications and installation standards
◦ Rack/stack operations and equipment provisioning
◦ Site logistics, staging, procurement, and facility coordination

Preferred Experience:

• Developing enterprise telecommunications infrastructure within DoD or IC environments.
• Designing complex facilities architectures including pathway mapping, equipment layouts, and infrastructure modernization planning.
• Working with engineering governance frameworks, enterprise architecture methodologies, or large scale design review processes.
• Coordinating physical infrastructure projects with facility engineers, electricians, and construction teams.

Requirements:

TS/SCI security clearance required, candidate will not be considered without.
