Job Title: Telecommunications Administrator

The Job
The Telecommunications Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and support of our global voice communication systems. This role focuses on ensuring high-quality connectivity across our international offices by managing a hybrid environment consisting of Avaya Aura and Microsoft Teams Phone System You will work closely with the Senior Infrastructure team to implement upgrades, resolve complex tickets, and ensure a seamless user experience for our global workforce.
Key responsibilities
System Administration: Perform daily administrative tasks within Avaya Communication Manager and Microsoft Teams Admin Center, including user provisioning, extension management, and voicemail configuration.
Hybrid Support: Assist in maintaining Direct Routing and Operator Connect configurations to ensure interoperability between legacy PBX and Microsoft Teams.
Endpoint Management: Deploy and troubleshoot global endpoints, including SIP desk phones, conference room systems, and softphone clients across various OS platforms.
Incident Resolution: Act as the Tier 2/3 escalation point for voice-related issues, troubleshooting call routing, audio quality (jitter/latency), and connectivity failures.
Global Moves & Changes: Execute MACD (Move, Add, Change, Delete) requests for users across multiple time zones, ensuring local compliance and numbering plan consistency.
Monitoring & Reporting: Use tools like Avaya Aura System Manager and Teams Call Quality Dashboard (CQD) to monitor system health and generate monthly usage reports.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of global circuit IDs, hardware inventory, and internal "How-To" guides for the IT Service Desk.
Essential requirements
Platform Proficiency: Practical experience with Avaya Aura 7.x/8.x and the Microsoft Teams Admin Center (TAC)
Voice Protocols: Solid understanding of SIP signaling (INVITE, BYE, CANCEL) and troubleshooting via SIP ladder diagrams.
Networking Fundamentals: Strong knowledge of DHCP (Options 242/176), DNS, VLANs, and IP addressing for voice endpoints.
Voice Quality (QoS): Understanding of Layer 3 DSCP and Layer 2 CoS markings to prioritize voice traffic.
Diagnostic Tools: Ability to use Wireshark or similar packet capture tools to analyze RTP streams and signaling issues.
Automation: Working knowledge of PowerShell for bulk user provisioning and Teams policy management.
Codec Knowledge: Understanding of audio codecs (G.711, G.729, OPUS) and their impact on network bandwidth.
Desired skills
Advanced SBC Knowledge: Ability to configure Header Manipulation Rules and complex routing tables on AudioCodes or Ribbon hardware.
Meeting Room Technology: Experience managing Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) on Windows and Android.
Security: Knowledge of TLS/SRTP encryption for voice and managing digital certificates for secure SIP trunks.
Cloud Ecosystems: Familiarity with Azure AD (Entra ID) and its role in licensing and conditional access for voice users.
Compliance: Knowledge of international emergency services (E911) and regional regulatory requirements for PSTN.
Experiance & Education
Years of Experience: 3–5 years of dedicated experience in telecommunications or network administration.
Project Experience: Involvement in at least one major migration (e.g., Legacy PBX to VoIP or Avaya to Teams).
Education: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or Telecommunications (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Certifications:
Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate (MS-700)
Avaya Certified Implementation Specialist ( ACIS).
CCNA or CompTIA Network+.
