A Brief Overview
The Telecommunications Operator is responsible for handling all incoming and outgoing calls requiring assistance. The operator will monitor alarms, take appropriate actions and make emergency overhead announcements when necessary. The operator will use multiple software systems to initiates text messaging to medical center staff. The operator reports system difficulties to the proper authority. The Operator must provide detailed documentation of process completion that may be referenced at a later date. Special emphasis is placed upon presenting and exhibiting a professional, pleasant and positive demeanor when dealing with patients, employees, and all other customers of the organization.

Experience Qualifications

  • 3 months of related experience. Required


Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in the HICS Emergency Notification Process. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates a good working knowledge of all processes associated with the Telecommunications Operator position. (Required proficiency)
  • Capable of multi-tasking with numerous interruptions. (Required proficiency)


What you will do

  • Responsible for answering and distributing all incoming calls in a timely and accurate manner. Responsible for providing operator assistance to all callers as needed/requested.
  • Responsible for monitoring the Simplex system and take appropriate actions when / if necessary.
  • Responsible for activating the EMERGENCY TONE as needed for Code Blue and designated Severe Weather. Responsible for answering 6444 Emergency Assistance Line and following the policy / procedure.
  • Responsible for making overhead announcements, which may include Code Blue, Severe Weather alert, and Fire Alarm.
  • Responsible for monitoring the National Weather service radio, Local TV station, and / or National Weather Service email and implementing department procedure.
  • Responsible for initiating the Emergin pages as requested/needed per procedure/policy.
  • Responsible for documenting and keeping detailed records in appropriate logs within the Telecommunications department.
  • Responsible for recognizing potential process / system problems that could cause outages and / or delays and notifying appropriate management.
  • Responsible for sending alerts and / or messages through Vocera Web Console.
  • Responsible for contacting various On-Call staff as needed/requested per policy / procedure, including Administrator On-Call.
  • Responsible for issuing “loaner” equipment such as, pagers, Vocera devices, Verizon cell phones, UBIDuo and speaker phones per policy/procedure as needed/requested.
