Telecom Design Engineer __ Division of Information SystemsThe Telecom Design Engineer is responsible for design engineering, planning, and execution of telecommunications and data center network projects in support of UMMC’s enterprise environment. This role supports UMMC hospitals and remote clinics throughout the state and ensures network cabling and fiber infrastructure, standards, protocols, and systems are designed and implemented to meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
Education and Experience Required:
Degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) and three (3) years work experience in communications systems, data center networking design and implementation, cabling/fiber, project management or information technology infrastructure.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:
Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) must obtain post-hire within twelve (12) months.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of telecommunications, telephone and fiber standards and best practices. Repair and troubleshooting skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Customer service skills. Ability to resolve complex telecommunication problems or escalate as necessary. Ability to design, test, maintain, monitor, document/map campus fiber and troubleshoot end user telecommunications hardware, telephony devices, voice/data hardware products. Ability to distinguish colors. Ability to perform preventative maintenance. Ability to maintain inventories and documentation. Ability to determine the methodology for installing telecommunications equipment, splice and terminate fiber. Ability to train and mentor subordinate personnel. Experience with patch manager software, termination and troubleshooting of fiber optics, experience with fluke devices including certifiber pro, OTDRS, experience with fiber fusion splicer.
