Job Description

Purpose of the role

To partner with the bank, to provide independent insurance on control processes and advise on improvements to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the bank’s internal controls framework.

Accountabilities

  • Collaboration across the bank to maintain a satisfactory, robust, and efficient control environment through the execution of ad-hoc assessments and testing on the design and operational effectiveness of the internal controls, aligned to control policies and standards.
  • Development of detailed test plans and procedures to identify weaknesses in internal controls and other initiatives aligned to the bank’s control framework to mitigate any potential risks and issues, prioritised by its severity to disrupt bank operations, potential losses, and reputational impact.
  • Communication of key findings and observations to the relevant stakeholders and business units to improve overall control efficiency and provide corrective actions to senior managers. Collaboration with other control professionals to resolve complex issues and ensure consistent testing methodologies across the bank.
  • Development of a knowledge centre containing detailed documentation of control assessments, testing on design and operational effectiveness of procedures, findings, and the distribution of material on internal controls to train and upskill colleagues within the bank.

To be successful as a Technology Resilience Lead you should have experience with:

  • Delivery of Resilience Assurance consultancy and guidance, following an established process, whilst embedded in a broader Lean Control Process
  • Strong understanding of technology resilience principles across cloud, network, data, and application domains
  • Ability to define and assess High Availability designs against service level objectives, including availability targets, RTO, RPO and recovery sequencing.
  • Working with technical specialists and the appropriate Business in developing and delivering IT Resilience solutions, and achieve high levels of satisfaction as a result
  • Executes the process, that proactively initiates contact with the client, provides consultancy and assurance enabling the technical change team to meet the Banks Resilience requirements.
  • Takes responsibility for planning engagements, management of the assurance service, through to risk identification and sign-off for Resilience outputs.
  • Delivery against a process that ensures solutions are assessed against the banks resilience standards.
  • Act as Resilience authority to business and technology clients.
  • Manage escalations where additional complex case management is required with support from further SMEs.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure residual risks are adequately logged and mitigated to the degree that meets the risk appetite of the business.
  • Support for the wider delivery and success of Technology Resilience Consultancy services.
  • Establish and manage relationships with key technical change teams and the business, to enable awareness and influencing of system Resilience strategy.
  • Collaborate with Senior and Executive peers across all global IT functions to ensure build and maintenance of effective Resilience controls.
  • Maintain an effective network of relationships with service and technology teams.
  • Encourage and solicit innovative ideas and knowledge sharing.
  • Represent Tech Resilience in cross-functional change programmes and business area meetings to ensure that Resilience considerations are included and considered and informed decisions are made to achieve agreed outcomes.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Hands-on understanding of clustering and replication patterns, including active-active and active-passive architectures across critical services.
  • Technical knowledge of database and storage resilience patterns such as synchronous and asynchronous replication and backup recovery integration.
  • Experience with observability, health checks and automated failover orchestration to detect degradation early and sustain service availability.
  • Understanding of network High Availability concepts including load balancers, DNS failover, zone or region redundancy and resilient traffic routing.
  • Hands on experience around Middleware technologies.
  • Work with stakeholders and customers to deliver Resilient solutions that mitigate risk and reduce cost & rework.
  • To provide direction and guidance to change stakeholders to ensure system Resilience is maintained.
  • Deliver product and project support & review capability throughout the system development lifecycle, to highlight and articulate Resilience risk to stakeholders.
  • Engage and partner with change delivery teams to identify and track Resilience requirements and ensure Barclays delivers Resilient systems.
