Job Description

You desire impactful work.

You’re RGA ready

RGA is a purpose-driven organization working to solve today’s challenges through innovation and collaboration. A Fortune 200 Company and listed among its World’s Most Admired Companies, we’re the only global reinsurance company to focus primarily on life- and health-related solutions. Join our multinational team of intelligent, motivated, and collaborative people, and help us make financial protection accessible to all.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technology Business Partner to act as the trusted link between EMEA business units and Global Technology. The role combines senior business engagement with solution thinking: understanding where the business is heading, shaping demand into clear and valuable opportunities, and setting the high-level solution direction that architecture and delivery teams then take forward.

This is a strategic, outcome-focused role rather than a hands-on engineering one. The Technology Business Partner owns the front door for EMEA technology demand, challenges and prioritises it against agreed strategic criteria, and makes sure that what is approved is designed in line with enterprise architecture principles and global standards, delivered to commitments, and measured against the value it was meant to create.

Key Responsibilities

Business partnering and relationship management

  • Act as the primary technology partner to EMEA business leaders across reinsurance, actuarial, finance, risk and operations, building credibility and trusted relationships at senior level.
  • Develop a deep understanding of each business area's strategy, operating model, market challenges and pain points, and anticipate where technology can create advantage or reduce risk.
  • Represent the business voice within Global Technology, and the Global Technology perspective within the business, so that both share one view of priorities, constraints and trade-offs.
  • Proactively share knowledge of technology opportunities, emerging capabilities (including data, automation and AI) and risks with business stakeholders.
  • Prioritises financial accountability and proactively seeks opportunities to avoid expense. Actively challenges business units on change that can result in cost avoidance.

Business alignment and strategic priorities

  • Work with the Regional CIO, EMEA and business leadership to translate regional business strategy into a clear technology roadmap and set of priorities.
  • Ensure EMEA demand and investment align with business objectives, global technology strategy, application portfolio direction and data and AI strategy.
  • Partner with the EMEA Strategy Execution Office to maintain a single, prioritised view of regional demand and to route work through the established intake and delivery governance.
  • Track progress against EMEA strategic priorities, identify slippage or misalignment early, and agree corrective action with business and delivery leads.
  • Lead the technology inputs to business cases, roadmaps, and budget and resource planning, with a strong focus on cost, benefit and financial stewardship.

Solution intake, demand shaping and prioritisation

  • Own the intake of EMEA business and technology demand: capturing requests, clarifying the problem to be solved and confirming the outcome sought.
  • Lead early discovery through stakeholder interviews, workshops and cross-functional sessions to define scope, high-level requirements, dependencies and success measures.
  • Challenge and triage requests, consolidating duplicates and identifying where existing global capabilities or solutions can be reused before new work starts.
  • Prioritise opportunities against agreed criteria such as strategic fit, return on investment, regulatory need, risk and productivity, and present recommendations to the Regional CIO and relevant governance forums.

High-level solution design

  • Shape high-level solution options for prioritised demand, setting out the problem statement, capability impact, options considered, recommended approach, indicative cost and key risks.
  • Communicate solution concepts clearly through storyboards, high-level designs, options papers and decision records, and secure business and technology agreement to the recommended direction.
  • Engage Enterprise Architecture early so that proposed solutions align with architecture principles, global technology standards, integration patterns, and security-by-design and operational resilience expectations.
  • Hand over well-structured requirements and design intent to architects, product owners and delivery teams, and remain the technical liaison so business needs are interpreted accurately throughout delivery.
  • Assess how well existing systems and processes support business needs, and identify opportunities to simplify, modernise or retire legacy technology.

Delivery oversight and value realisation

  • Oversee EMEA technology initiatives from approval through to adoption, ensuring delivery teams have what they need and that commitments to the business are met.
  • Proactively identify and resolve obstacles, dependencies and conflicts that could hinder business commitments, escalating to the Regional CIO where needed.
  • Provide regular, candid updates on the status, health and risks of the EMEA portfolio to business stakeholders and leadership.
  • Define and track expected benefits, cost and risk for each initiative, and confirm after delivery that the intended value has been realised.
  • Support business change and adoption so that solutions are used effectively and deliver sustainable outcomes.

Governance, risk and compliance

  • Ensure proposed solutions address cyber security, data protection, AI governance, third-party risk and EMEA regulatory requirements, including operational resilience obligations such as DORA.
  • Work with the global owners of data, technology, privacy and AI standards, bringing regional gaps or exception requests to them for decision rather than resolving them locally.
  • Establish early vendor relationships where appropriate, keeping a forward-looking view of whether vendor products and direction meet business requirements.
  • Contribute to architecture forums and design review processes to keep EMEA solutions aligned with global direction.

Global and regional collaboration

  • Work seamlessly with Global Technology, Business Unit IT, EMEA IT leadership and delivery centres, reusing global assets and representing EMEA requirements in global forums.
  • Form and lead virtual teams across regions and functions to take opportunities from idea to agreed solution direction.
  • Seek out innovation in technology and ways of working that delivers value and efficiency for the region.

General

  • Maintain training and development relevant to the role, including timely completion of mandatory training.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance, and travel within EMEA and internationally as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Required: bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: MBA, master's degree or a relevant professional certification (for example in enterprise architecture, business analysis or programme delivery).

Experience: required

  • Typically 10+ years' progressive experience across technology and business roles, including significant time in business partnering, business solution architecture, business analysis or technology consulting.
  • Proven experience partnering with senior business stakeholders in insurance, reinsurance, financial services or another regulated environment.
  • Strong track record of demand intake, discovery, requirements definition and solution shaping across complex, multi-stakeholder groups.
  • Experience shaping high-level solutions and working with enterprise architecture principles, practices and governance.
  • Experience contributing to business cases, roadmaps, portfolio prioritisation and benefits tracking.
  • Experience working in a global, matrixed organisation across regions and cultures.

Experience: preferred

  • Experience working with actuarial, finance or risk functions.
  • Knowledge of the EMEA regulatory landscape, including operational resilience requirements such as DORA.
  • Architecture or business analysis qualifications, and familiarity with Agile and product-based delivery.
  • Experience of, or strong interest in, data, analytics, automation and AI-enabled solutions.

Skills and abilities

  • Highly advanced ability to partner with the business, translating business needs and problems into viable and accepted solutions.
  • Ability to take part in business strategy discussions and shape the technology strategy that enables it.
  • Broad understanding of modern technology landscapes, including cloud, data and AI, integration and SaaS platforms, sufficient to shape credible options and challenge designs.
  • Expert facilitation, interviewing and workshop skills, with the ability to lead groups to agreed outcomes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, including presenting complex concepts simply to senior audiences.
  • Highly advanced influencing and negotiation skills, and the ability to challenge the status quo in a facilitative and collaborative way.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound commercial and financial judgement.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders at once in a fast-changing environment.

Personal attributes

  • Pragmatic, outcome-focused and commercially minded.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Collaborative and credible, able to build trust and influence quickly.
  • Curious and forward-looking about both technology and the business.
  • Resilient and adaptable to the pace of change in a global organisation.

What you can expect from RGA:

  • Gain valuable knowledge from and experience with diverse, caring colleagues around the world.
  • Enjoy a respectful, welcoming environment that fosters individuality and encourages pioneering thought.
  • Join the bright and creative minds of RGA, and experience vast, endless career potential.
