Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance to the GIS and associated GIS and other data to ensure data integrity, currency and completeness including:
    • All legal and address updates
    • All infrastructure facilities (e.g. transmission and distribution systems)
    • Landbase updates
    • Running QA/QC connectivity tools
  • Performs entry of new utility asset data using GIS.
  • Provides GIS support to other areas of the business as required.
  • Maintains basic knowledge of the sources of available digital data such as GeoBC, ICI Society Local Governments and third parties.
  • Interacts with Designers and Planners to assist in the permitting of new Utility distribution infrastructure including production of permitting drawings and As-Builts.
  • Liaises with internal stakeholders to act as a resource and advisor to other areas of the business.
  • Recommends/implements additions and/or revised procedures and standards to promote efficient use of the GIS.
  • Performs duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Education: Completion of a recognized post-secondary, advanced diploma in GIS.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 months experience in an Enterprise GIS environment, including the ArcGIS Enterprise environment (ArcGIS Pro, Portal/ArcGIS Online, Field Maps/Collector, Survey123, SDE) 10.6 or later, or SmallWorld (Gas transmission office and Gas distribution office).
  • Basic understanding of programming languages such as Python, Javascript and Arcade and visual modelling environments (FME and Model Builder).
  • Basic level of computer literacy in LAN management, database management, operating systems and programming. Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and other specialized software in use in the department.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to share knowledge and skills with others.
  • Ability to analyse problems and interpret and adapt instructions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
