Position Title Technician – Unit Support

Department Other Adult Mixed Acuity Unit

Location North Hospital

Shift Part-Time – Day

The Technician-Unit Support plays a crucial role in providing both direct patient care and clerical support within the Adult Mixed Acuity Unit. Under the supervision of a Clinical Nurse, the technician assists with patient care activities, maintains a clean and safe environment, and supports unit operations. This role also involves providing information and assistance to physicians, patients, families, staff, and vendors to ensure smooth unit functioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with direct patient care activities as directed by the Clinical Nurse.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Provide information, directions, and support to physicians, patients, families, vendors, and visitors.
  • Schedule tests and procedures for patients, and support patient flow.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, sign patients in and out of the unit, and document activities.
  • Order, receive, and deliver equipment and supplies needed for patient care.
  • May provide continuous patient observation, including suicide prevention.
  • Follow infection control and safety protocols at all times.
  • Support clerical tasks such as data entry, communication, and documentation.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • CPR certification may be required; completion of IU Health PCA training program preferred.
  • Previous comparable acute care experience or successful completion of IU Health PCA program required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA), or completion of IU Health PCA program.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and patient care procedures.
  • Understanding of infection control principles.
  • Basic computer skills required for documentation and communication.
