Purpose

Own and improve the electrical design and lifecycle performance of arc‑welding and plasma‑cutting systems, while providing technical support to production for robust, efficient builds. Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Service, and New Product Development to develop specifications, perform analysis and validation, resolve production issues, document solutions, and train stakeholders. Execute prototyping and lab testing to verify design changes, enhance reliability, and strengthen manufacturability and serviceability.

(Duties and Responsibilities)

Production Support

  • Troubleshoot and resolve advanced technical issues related to our products in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Track and resolve First Pass Yield (FPY) product related issues. Utilize established Operations Continuous Improvement processes to surface and escalate non-design-related issues.
  • Collect electrical measurement data on PC boards and/or equipment returned from field failures, and catalog the data for further analysis by engineers. Monitor incoming field failure specimens to verify effectiveness of corrective actions once implemented.
  • Review non-conforming components for root cause failure and potential corrective actions.
  • Offer Technical support for production teams, addressing product-related issues to minimize disruptions in manufacturing.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve operational challenges.
  • Support component obsolescence issues through timely testing and evaluation of alternate components.
  • Engage and support new products development teams ad hoc to gain understanding of equipment theory of operation to increase knowledge base as products are introduced.

Design Optimization & Validation

  • Perform testing of design changes to verify product performance, durability, and compliance with specifications.
  • Identify opportunities for product cost reduction through design optimization, material changes, or manufacturing process improvements.
  • Build or modify functional prototypes in the lab as directed by engineers.

Requirements

  • Level II - Vocational training plus 3+ years of relevant experience -OR- GED plus 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Level III - Vocational training plus 5+ years of relevant experience -OR- GED plus 7+ years of relevant experience -OR- Associates Degree in related field with no prior experience
  • Experience in testing and problem solving preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required.
  • Ability to handle constantly changing set of priorities.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints and schematics.
  • Basic knowledge of how to use digital multi-meters.
  • Knowledge of how to use oscilloscopes preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Ability to perform hands on work.
