Performs skilled mechanical and first-line supervisory work involving the maintenance and repair of City of Orlando-owned equipment and vehicles (i.e., refuse trucks, automobiles, pickup trucks, backhoes, rollers, street sweepers, bulldozers, fire engines, rescue trucks, motorcycles, tractors, mowers, etc.). Work is performed under moderate supervision. Performance is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through inspection of equipment, direct observation, the performance of the fleet, and conferences with management. The employee is required to work weekends, holidays, or nights as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate, some supervisory or management experience, experience in all types of maintenance and repairs of a multi-operational fleet, and at least five (5) years of experience as a mechanic; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Valid Florida Class B CDL with Air Brakes required within six (6) months of employment. Must be able to read and interpret prints, sketches, technical manuals, and bulletins. Current ASE Master Tech and/or EVT Supervisor's Certifications preferred.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:

  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
