Technician - Motor Vehicle
Department: Electrical Installation Automotive and Security
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Compensation: £26,123 / year
To facilitate the learning process by supporting staff and students in an effective learning environment
Key Responsibilities
Duties
- To provide direct support to teaching staff by maintaining and promoting lively working environment and practices.
- To work with and ensure that staff and students have access to studios, workshops, equipment as required.
- To prepare and assist in activities ensuring all materials and equipment are prepared in readiness for practical sessions and retrieved after the activity has ceased.
- Maintain and repair specialist equipment and be responsible for the security of equipment and tools.
- To assist with the supervision of students working on project work.
- Be flexible in supporting the sections requirements and cross college tasks
- Ensure continuous development and improvement of professional knowledge.
- Be responsible for ordering requisitions and storekeeping
- Any other duties, of a similar level of responsibility, as may be required.

Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Practical experience working with motor vehicles or workshop/ garage environment experience
- Good knowledge of vehicle tools, equipment, and workshop safety procedures
- Ability to manage, issue, and maintain workshop tools and equipment effectively
- Strong organisational skills with attention to cleanliness and tidiness in the workshop area
- Ability to work safely and follow health and safety regulations at all times
- Basic mechanical knowledge and confidence working with cars under supervision
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
- Good communication skills and a helpful, professional manner
Desirable Criteria
- Relevant qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance or a related field (e.g. Level 2 or 3)
- Experience working in an educational or training environment
- Knowledge of vehicle diagnostics and modern automotive technologies
- Experience maintaining workshop inventories or using stock management systems
- First Aid or Health & Safety certification (e.g. COSHH, Manual Handling)
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to undertake further training and professional development

- Experience working in a motor vehicle workshop or garage environment, supporting technicians or mechanics or strong knowledge of motor vehicle and keen hobby
- Hands-on experience handling and maintaining a range of automotive tools and equipment
- Proven ability to maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised workspace
- Experience working with or around vehicles, including basic servicing or repair tasks
- Familiarity with workshop processes such as tool control, stock checks, and equipment maintenance
Desirable Criteria
- Experience supporting learners, apprentices, or trainees in a workshop or training setting
- Experience using digital systems for recording tool usage, stock control, or maintenance logs
