Overview

Are you interested in joining a dynamic and international team of professionals to transform education? IE University's Business School is looking for a Media Lab Technician to join its team! The IE Media Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the Media Lab Director in administering an instructional photography, video and audio production and post-production (editing & VFX) lab, as well as coordinating the Lab’s activities as well as logistic and academic needs in the Madrid Campuses (Tower & María de Molina), providing students and faculty, with user support, maintain an inventory of video production equipment for student use within the Media Lab and foresee and budget future needs.

The Media Lab Technician primarily supports BCDM and MCDB students and faculty activity, but will also serve some of the audiovisual needs of Masters and Executive Masters Programs such as the MSMC and the ESMC, in addition to content Creation to the IEU Comms Lab and the pilot project of the BCDM Agency Incubator.

The Media Lab Technician is responsible for coordinating the Media Lab Studios and facilities, maintaining an inventory of video and audio production equipment, providing software and desktop user support to Students within the Media Lab facilities at IE University Campuses in Madrid at IE Tower and María de Molina.

Responsibilities

Your role as a Media Lab Technician will involve:

Equipment Circulation and technical support:

• Manage new and existing video and post-production equipment for student and faculty use.* Provide Media Lab users with technical support and training necessary to accomplish academic and research-related tasks.* Maintain and service cameras, tripods, lighting kits, audio gear, expendables and other production accessories.

*Instruct students and faculty on how to properly use equipment and hold users responsible for the optimal conditions of borrowed materials.* Maintain a check in and check out system / data base for circulating production equipment.* Facilitate students photograph and video production work by providing guidance and expertise.* Provide daily support to Media Lab users.

• In coordination with the Media Lab Director, provide pedagogical support to both students and faculty by creating and delivering labs / workshops on video production / graphic design and photography / lighting equipment in response to student and instructor needs.

Studios and Equipment Maintenance:* Keep the camera and sound equipment batteries charged and SD cards empty.* Check the camera status before class sessions held at the Media Lab studios as well as before and after borrowing equipment to students.

• Check studios status before and after students / professors use them.
• Check the editing booths’ computers hardware and software regularly; maintain data storage.
• Make sure every editing booth is properly powered, networked, and computer’s disks are clean.
• Delete obsolete or inappropriate files, programs and viruses on all computers.* Update software and operating systems as needed.* Make sure all peripherals are properly wired; perform hardware maintenance tasks.* Ensure smooth operation of all non-teaching aspects of the Media Lab, and alert staff and faculty to anticipated needs, such as equipment replacement, security issues, etc.
• Maintain and administer the acquisition of licenses for all installed software.
• Keep a data base of best student productions

Coordination and support in the MediaLab led initiatives

• Support the MediaLab director in the coordination of the MediaLab Film Challenge
• Give technical support to the Workshops organized by the MediaLab director with professionals of the AV field
• Support the MediaLab director and coordinate the students’ crew for the IE Short Film Festival (IESFF)
• Provide with audiovisual content to events such as the BCDM Day, the IE Short Film Festival (IESFF) and the Film Challenge.

Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

• Fluent English is a must.
• Passion for content creation, curiosity about the latest trends in the Media and Entertainment and AI sectors, and above all, team spirit and a drive to be a mentor to young students and professionals.
• Ability and interest in working in a liberal-arts educational context, with students and instructors who have a wide range of technical skill levels, in a range of pedagogical contexts.
• Working knowledge of and ability to instruct students on the following: : DSLR & mirrorless camera operation for photography and video recording, audio recording, lighting for camera photography, video editing, post-production basics and basic roles for a film production crew.
• Working knowledge of 2D with Adobe After Effects is a plus.
• Working knowledge of and ability to instruct students on best practices for media management, organization, video compression, codecs, file types, and current trends in digital media. Experience as instructor or teacher in Workshops, seminars or masterclasses is a plus.
• Ability to instruct students on best practices for equipment use, files organization, video compression, codecs, file types, and current trends in digital media.
• Strong creativity and problem-solving skills to apply principles, practices, and procedures within discipline to complete difficult assignments.
• Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Media Production/ Content Production. A Masters Degree in related Audiovisual field is a plus
• 3 years experience in either an equivalent position at an Educational Institution or as a free-lance or full time Production Professional (or related)
• Former IE Media Lab Users- alumni, adjunct faculty from either the BCDM or Master programs are also welcomed to apply.
